Saratoga county has no table gambling, not even a OTB. and I am glad.

They had it back in the 20's, but they outlawed it in the years that followed. Legs Diamond, Lucky Luciono, and all the gang hung out at the Casino in down town Saratoga. Then prohibition, and the founding fathers, changed the laws for good.

The flats would need a major overhaul, no heat, no room, 50 million or more anyway.

Great Lakes Downs has poker Wed-Sun. It is a Charity event where they collect the rake. There are 60 tournaments that have between 50-100 people in the. And then a few cash games such as:

3/6 limit
5/10 limit
1/2 no limit
2/5 no limit

It's a pretty good time with a lot of money going around!

Why should poker tables be at a thoroughbred racecourse, most especially, the oldest sporting venue, therefore the most historic, in the United States?

Why should Saratoga Racecourse change its rules to accomodate a card player? I'm sorry, I hope it never happens.

grit... you make no sense... slot machines are the lowest form of gambling possible, its like giving money away, just tell me why they are ok to have but you feel a poker room is not

pointgiven, go to this site and check this out. These guys set up this group and they do all these tournaments. They make bank, the charity makes bank, and the people get to play Hold Em. You wouldn't believe how many people the poker brings to the track.

Darlin' it's not Grit, its plural, Grits. Grit is what you get when you've got a mouthful of crabmeat that's not been picked well. When talking to southerners you've gotta know these things. (I'm cool now. lol)

If you really wanna see what I think of slots, go and read the bingo, slot thread. Now, Mister B, will know this. But if I'm not mistaken, isn't Saratoga Raceway where the jugheads run? Well, slot players aren't watching those either!! So sure, let 'em put a card room in back somewhere, it won't bother those wagering on jugheads, the two will never cross paths, only meet in the restrooms for whatever.

Just don't mess with Saratoga Racecourse. That's all, some things aren't broke, therefore, they don't need fixin'.

Well fact is, if I was better at poker, and I've never played the game in my life, I would probably choose that avenue for my entertainment as well. And that is horseracing's loss, often these days.

I'd probably get bored with poker, its the visual that's kinda unappealing to me. I couldn't hang.

The local harness track here has a weekly hold 'em tournament for members of its players club during the spring. Since there is no fee to play, it's not legally considered "gambling." I think the winner of each individual tournament gets a prize, and the highest finishers of all the tournaments play in one final tournament. The grand prize for the overall winner is a spot in the World Series of Poker.

It's a pretty popular promotion, and I can see people coming to the track who might not otherwise have an interest in horse racing. It's an interesting way to get them through the door and hopefully to the mutuel windows.
