Default Can Saturday's biggest winner become Sunday's biggest loser?

Saturday was about as laughable as days get in racing.

In Dubai - they ran a $10,000,000 race where you had three horses exiting a race where they all were defeated by a Japan filly - finish in a dead-tight 3-way photo.

The jockey of the 3rd place finisher convincing the jock of the 2nd place horse he had won was clearly the only memorable thing about that race. In typical synthetic fashion ... the field was very bunched up late.

In the days two Derby preps - one was won by a horse who was beaten a mere 33+ lengths by Eskendereya in his only lifetime dirt start.

The other was won by a horse whos last win came in a 4.5 furlong baby race at Keeneland almost a year ago.

Just when you think this crop can't possibly look any worse ...

I actually think Saturday's biggest winner was Conveyance.

He was marooned out in post position 9 in the Southwest Stakes with a very short run into the first turn. The same post position #9 that hindered Hard Spun enough to manage only a 4th place finish at 1/2 odds in the '07 edition of the Southwest behind Teuflesberg.

Unlike with Hard Spun .. Conveyance was wisely gunned out of the gate in what became an impressive wire-to-wire victory earned with a 109 pace figure to the 6f call but just a 96 final figure. He was tired late and had every right in the world to be.

The horse who Conveyance outsprinted to the early lead in the Southwest was named Cool Bullet. Cool Bullet cut back to a sprint and won todays Hansel Stakes at Turfway wire-to-wire in a jaw-dropping display of speed.

Mission Impaz .. stuck out in post 10 and also forwardly placed early in the Southwest further flattered Conveyance's dirt debut by winning the La Derby.

It's not very often that Saturday's hero gets to run on Sunday.

That's like automatically turning this threads subject into a self fulfilling prophecy.

Sometimes I wonder if people who write about races (in this instance the TDN) bother to even watch the races. The best they could come up with for Mission Impazible was that he ran evenly to be 4th in the Southwest and now appears to be a Derby candidate.

I dont like him AS far as the Derby... But his trainer is the GOAT AND HES EASY TODAY, IMO. Nacho Friend has to bounce/regress a little, even if he dosent hes not good enough, and Tapit SUCKS IMO.

Default Sunland Park Race 7

The winner went 21.31 43 &2 and hung on gamely.
I'd say Conveyance will be tough on the Conveyor belt.

Yeah. Just what the DIRT LOVERS covet: a 2-1-3 around the track, very exciting race.

Which is unlike typical dirt fashion, where (barely) sprinters typically blow out 2 turn fields and nothing passes in the lane. Now, that's good racing.
