![]() Now, i will start this by apologising to the females viewing this thread hoping to see jockeys in nothing but underwear.
It's a fairly new feature from the Racing Post, which is usually quite fin to read, so i thought i'd post the ones done by the more popular jockeys so far. Eddie Ahern by Racing Post staff Age 29 Marital status Married to Diane with two sons, Conor and Niall Licensed since First winner in 1993 Retainer Freelance, but most of my rides are for John Dunlop and John Hills Lives Lidgate, near Newmarket Drives BMW 6 series Agent Terry Norman What's your perfect night in, and your perfect night out? A good night in involves some kind of takeaway, either Indian or Chinese, and a good film. My all-time favourite film is Legends Of The Fall, starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins. A perfect night out would be catching up with friends in London. Diane and I would go with a few others to a restaurant like Nobu, the Japanese place I like a lot, and then we'd all go for a few drinks afterwards. You've picked up a two-day suspension – what are you going to do to entertain yourself? Any time off is usually spent with the kids and Diane. Saying that, there's always something around the house and garden that needs fixing, or a rail in the paddock, and I love doing DIY. I've got all the tools, electric drill, saw and even a handyman tool belt. What's your favourite holiday destination? Last winter, the whole family went for the best holiday to Barbados with Darryll Holland. We spent the days on the beach or by the pool, had a sleep in the afternoon, and then went out for dinner and a drink in the evening. Who'd be your ideal three companions for the long drive to Musselburgh? Firstly, I'd take my parents, simply because I just don't get to see enough of them. The third person would be a good friend of mine, Russell Trew, for his sense of humour. He'd definitely keep us well entertained all the way. What CDs would you keep in the glove compartment for when the conversation dries up? At the moment I'm listening to the latest Smash Hits – I like all the up-to-date music and now have quite a few. I'm also listening to Bob Marley and The Beautiful South. Who are your biggest heroes – in and out of racing? In racing, Mick Kinane, simply because he really is the best jockey around. Outside racing, I would have to say my Dad. He is a family man who has given everything up for his kids. When I was young I really looked up to him and know I wouldn't be where I am now without him. He has taught me so much and I owe him everything. What things excite you - and what do you find a turn off? Buying Diane good sexy underwear turns me on (as well as taking it off!). What turns me off? In a woman, or anything? Generally it would have to be bad, slow drivers. What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you in the course of your work? I was in the sauna before racing one day and had ten minutes to lose half a pound. There was an apprentice in there too and he was bone dry, he hadn't even broken sweat. So I told him to “Give it a splash”, expecting him to throw water on the coals. Instead, he picked up the bucket of water and threw the entire thing straight over me! If you could change one thing in racing, what would it be? Quite simply, prize-money. If you hadn't been a jockey, what would you like to have done? I think I would have joined the equine division of the armyand taken up showjumping. Otherwise, I think I would have been a farmer. Do you ever read the Betfair forum? No, I honestly can't use a computer. But even if I could, I still wouldn't read it. What's the daftest question you've ever been asked by a journalist? I was standing outside the weighing room, in my colours ready to ride, and someone came up to me and said: “Are you a jockey?” (NoChance comment: that was Crisford, apparently) What are the best and worst rides you have ever given a horse? The worst was at Lingfield. I went for home a lap too soon. I thought I was riding in a 6f race, but it turned out it was over 2m. I pulled my mount up and all the other jockeys went by laughing. The best was aboard Forever Phoenix for trainer Robin Cowell. It was in the International Stakes in Dubai. We were last in a big field and then got a great run up the inner to win by a short head. It was a great feeling. What's the biggest regret of your career? don't think I have any regrets. I've made plenty of mistakes for sure, but I've learned from them and moved on.

![]() Frankie Dettori
by Racing Post staff Age Very young <37> Marital status Married to Catherine with five children: Leo, Ella, Mia, Tallulah and Rocco Licensed since In Italy 1986, and then in England in '87 Retainer Godolphin Lives Stetchworth, near Newmarket Drives A Mercedes S Class 320 Diesel. I was also given a black Bentley for winning the Derby from some very nice owners (he also has a Ferrari) Agent Ray Cochrane What's your perfect night in, and your perfect night out? My perfect night in would be to have a group of friends around, cook them something nice, have some drinks and then blast the music. I recently got a set of mixing decks and I like to drive everybody crazy with the loud music. A perfect night out would have to be somewhere to eat. If I am in London I love to go to my restaurant, Frankie's, in Knightsbridge, with a group of friends. I then enjoy going for a dance with Catherine and a few others in a club afterwards. You've picked up a two-day suspension – what are you going to do to entertain yourself? I usually just hang around at home, watch TV, and become a bit of a couch potato. If I'm suspended for a bit longer, I try to go abroad. What's your favourite holiday destination? I love to go to Sardinia as often as I can and with all the suspensions I've had this season, that seems to be quite a lot! My father comes from there and we have a lot of family links. The kids and my wife all love it, especially when the weather's good. Every year I try to get off to Ibiza for a boys' weekend with one of my friends – definitely no children around then! Who'd be your ideal three companions for the long drive to Musselburgh? I'd have the stallsman John Duffy, as he's hilarious. Then there'dbe fellow jockeys Martin Dwyer and Adam Kirby. Any of them could drive as long as it wasn't me. I'm not the greatest driver. What CDs would you keep in the glove compartment for when the conversation dries up? I'm into house music and like to play lots of dance – hence the decks. I'm always swapping CDs with Robert Havlin, as we have the same taste. Generally, when I'm driving, I'll listen to anything – pop, rock, or mainly just the radio. Who are your biggest heroes – in and out of racing? My greatest sporting hero is Ayrton Senna. He was so professional. Above all, I admire his interviews and his total dedication to sport. Otherwise, my father would have to be my greatest hero. He has had such an influence on my life and gave me the inspiration to do what I am now. Even now we are constantly in touch. He's my biggest critic and yet we have a great father/son relationship. What things excite you – and what do you find a turnoff? I always look forward to the weekend –big races, big stage, big occasion, big favourites, big wins – you just can't beat it! The thing I look forward to less is driving down to Bath on a Monday. What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you in the course of your work? Something happens every day! One occasion that does spring to mind was about two years ago at Newmarket, when a lad from Eastern Europe was leading up a runner. Now, being foreign, I understand the problem of language, but when the bell went for jockeys to mount, I went over to the horse and he kept on waving me off. I couldn't understand what he was saying and why he kept on walking past. In the end I got on and it wasn't until that moment that I realised it was the wrong horse! Talk about language barriers! If you could change one thing in racing, what would it be? I would halve the fixture list. If you hadn't been a jockey, what would you like to have done? When I was a kid I wanted to be afootballer. Unfortunately I was too small, or maybe it was because I wasn't good enough. Now I could see myself running a restaurant because I love food and cooking, but in the job I'm in, it's not often you find me in the kitchen. Do you ever read the Betfair forum? No – what's that? I'm so technically incapable I can hardly turn on the computer. What's the daftest question you've ever been asked by a journalist? There's definitely been a lot – and not all of them racing orientated. The more stupid ones I try to ignore. What are the best and worst rides you have ever given a horse? The best would be Fantastic Light in the 2001 Irish Champion Stakes. There was a great tussle between us and Galileo and it turned into a tactical affair. Luckily the tactics worked out for us and we won by a head. The worst – well, the ride I received most criticism for – was Swain in the 1998 Breeders' Cup. Personally, I didn't think it was that bad, we finished a close third, but the critics were unimpressed. What's the biggest regret of your career? I don't have any regrets. Not because I don't believe in them but because right now I'm living the dream.

Now though? It's slightly repetitive and pathetic. I started this thread because i thought people might like to read into some of the lives of our top jocks, but i'm obviously wasting my time in doing so. I will no longer post these "jockey shorts" any longer if they are just going to be turned into this. Sorry, i just wanted to get that off my chest

![]() Maybe the funniest one yet.
Kevin Tobin. Age 35 Marital status Very single Licenced since July 2003 Retainer Conditional with Charlie Mann since September 2005 Lives Lambourn Drives Vauxhall Astra (commonly known as ‘thestolen one') What's your perfect night in, and your perfect night out? My perfect night in would involve sitting down to one of Natasha Fehily's dinners (Noel's wife), eating my own body weight in desserts, then watching my beloved Arsenal beat Manchester United. My perfect night out would involve dinner with friends, then a double-quick move to the nearest karaoke bar where I could let loose with one of my favourite Eminem tracks, or better still sing something I've written myself. I can write a song in a morning. You've picked up a two-day suspension – what are you going to do to entertain yourself? I am in the lucky position of being in full-time employment with Charlie Mann, so there is no doubt he wouldn't let me stray far from yard duties! Nevertheless, if things were different I would sleep the first day and relax the second. What's your favourite holiday destination? As I've just mentioned, I'm in full-time employment with Charlie Mann, so have little understanding of the word ‘holiday', but I do love to dash across the water to Ireland on the odd occasion. Who'd be your ideal three companions for the long drive to Musselburgh? It would have to be Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek years), Leona Lewis and Shakira. I'm sure I don't need to explain why. What CDs would you keep in the glove compartment for when the conversation dries up? It has to be Eminem, while the Rocky soundtrack is great for motivation and just one of the ‘Now' albums, I guess. Who are your biggest heroes – in and out of racing? I have always looked up to Tony McCoy and Ruby Walsh, but I must admit my biggest hero in racing is Mick Kinane. Mick has been a model of consistency for about 200 years and he's still at the top ![]() What things excite you – and what do you find a turnoff? In racing, the biggest turn-on is having good rides at the toptracks, no question. I hate arrogance and rudeness. What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you in the course of your work? I was having my second ride for the guv'nor. I was ‘in the zone' and managed to murder a certain jockey (who has a rather nice brand of chocolate named after him) from whom I received a severe telling-off. Unfortunately, we both then fell at the last. After brushing myself off, I handed him his whip. The enraged jockey attempted to take my head off with it! At the time it wasn't that funny, but we both look back now and have a giggle about it. If you could change one thing in racing, what would it be? I would have to schedule a conditional jockeys' race at the Cheltenham Festival; there are three amateur races and we claimers have to mix it with the big guns. If you hadn't been a jockey, what would you like to have done? I would be a stand-up comedian or a radio presenter. I think I'd be a good comedian, because every time I stand up people start laughing at me ![]() What's the daftest question you've ever been asked by a journalist? On riding my first winner, the commentator at the course announced that it was my first winner. Shortly afterwards, a reporter asked me: “How many is that for the season?” What are the best and worst rides you have ever given a horse? My first winner – I was told he wouldn't get the trip in a horsebox, so I dropped him out so far that if he hadn't won I'd have been done for not trying. I got a peach of a run turning for home at Plumpton; he sprouted wings and made me look like a pure genius. My worst ride was my first ride for Jessica Harrington; I rode a sister to Florida Pearl at the Punchestown festival. What could go wrong, you say? I got left ten lengths at the start and never got within a furlong of the field – it's another one of those I can laugh about now. What's the biggest regret of your career? I'm much too young to have regrets!

![]() Mattie Batchelor - Probably the funniest jockey ever!
Age 31 Marital Status Single Licensed Since 1996 Retainer Mark Bradstock and anyone else who'll have me Lives Brighton Drives Reliant Robin – yellow ![]() Agent Dave Roberts What's your perfect night in, and your perfect night out? My perfect night out would be a steak meal at the local Berni Inn, and my perfect night in would be a night of Mastermind and University Challenge reruns followed by a game of chess with Pops (my dad). You've picked up a two-day suspension. What are you going to do with yourself? When I'm not out caring for the community and delivering Meals on Wheels for the WI, I'd jump straight in the car and head up to Chipping Norton golf club for two free days of golf with Gordy Clarkson, Daz the butcher and Uncle Rick. I'm pretty good at golf now. What's your favourite holiday destination? La Caleche in Belgium. We go for six days of non-stop golf every year on the Boys from Barney tour. Who'd be your ideal companions for the long drive to Musselburgh? Tony McCoy. Why? Because he's got a TV in his car. He's also got a driver, so that makes two people. The third person would then be a midget, so there'd be plenty of room in the back for me to lie down and sleep. What CDs would you keep in the glove compartment for when the conversation dries up? 101 Greatest Hits from Chas and Dave. You can't beat a bit of Chas and Dave, and maybe something by Johnny Mathis. Who are your biggest heroes, in and out of racing? Out of racing my biggest hero is Derek Trotter. He said he was going to make a million and achieved it. In racing, my biggest hero would be John ‘The Bird' Harris for turning Zimbabwe's career around. What things excite you, and what do you find a turn-off? A night out in Spearmint Rhino excites me and girls with hairy top lips turn me right off. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you in the course of your work? The funniest thing that has ever happened to me in racing would have to be when I saw Tom Doyle's car parked on Lambourn high street with the keys still in the ignition, and then the look on his face when he realised it was me driving off in it. I jumped in, drove off, and he then chased me down the street, calling me every name under the sun. Really, the things he said just aren't printable. ![]() If you could change one thing in racing, what would it be? Jockeys' car parks – they're always miles away. Except of course at Aintree, where you have the very obliging golf buggies to take you wherever you need to go. More racecourses should have a system like that. If you hadn't been a jockey, what would you have liked to have been? A male escort. With my charm and charisma, I'd have been a natural. ![]() What's the daftest question that you have ever been asked by a journalist? Off the top of my head I can't think of anything – probably because they just seem to ask so many . . . What are the best and worst rides you have ever given a horse? The best ride would have to be King Harald in the Jewson at the 2005 Cheltenham Festival for Mark Bradstock. It was a great front-running performance and an even bettertraining effort. We had a last-fence blunder but still managed to get up to win. It was a great moment. The worst was my first-ever winner on Nahrawali at Windsor. I spent most of the race waving to people as I hailed cabs. The post-race analysis read ‘made several mistakes for his inexperienced rider'. What's the biggest regret of your career? Not taking advantage of some of the willing stable lasses that you find in the racing world. ![]()
