Default Shake You Down

I am guessing that a number of you already know this one time Grade 1 competitor is entered in the 3rd race at Laurel this coming Tuesday for a $5K claiming tag. To make matters worse, he is racing off the claim for leading owner Robert Cole, who also owned him during his hayday. Cole claimed him back for $16K on November 24th. Yeah, it's a business, but certainly this horse has done enough good for Mr. Cole that he could do the right thing by him, and find a nice home for him.

Hopefully with five days to go before the race Mr. Cole will think better of running him and allow him to retire gracefully. With well over a million dollars in earnings he has earned at least that.

I recall telling someone here that just because he claimed him it did not mean he intended to let that horse live happily ever after...
anyone who wants to buy him...I'll happily give him a home.

Sounds like someone needs a visit from the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

I started the Shake You Down fan club many years ago. I just love this horse. He ran last year on KY Oaks Day and was awful.

If he does run, lets all pray that he makes it safely around
the race track. I hope I never see Cole's ugly yellow silks with the
word MOTHER in pink in the winner circle again. Ego maniac

In all reality this might be the dumbest thread ever posted on here. There are some people that read this forum to learn something about the game of racing and the horses in it. To have a bunch of people that have never been in a barn or worked with tbreds start to post this drivel is both non informative and demeaning to the professionalism of Byk's beloved forum.

FACT: Whether a horse enjoys or suffers through being raced has NOTHING to do with the type of race it's in or where it has run before. The age of the animal is also meaningless up to about 9.

This thread is a perfect example of a bunch of no nothings and wannabees passing themselves off as horseman.

Bethani gets a pass on this one because I truly believe her hands on experience has been validated in the past. I would say the same goes for Blue Eyes and Honu.

What happened....stood up by Bea Arthur again?

By the way, while I realize English is far from your first language, I wouldn't want YOU to contribute to the further decline in literacy. It would be " know nothings "....not " no nothings ".

And, also, I see you have 30 posts. Pretty amazing. Apparently even you realize how idiotic most of your posts are and end up deleting 95% of them.

Can anybody say " pathetic "?

Its brutal to run an old class horse like Shake You Down for 5k, regardless of economics, especially in current form. I mean look at this horses previous running lines, all those huge efforts, all those times he showed up in grand fashion and laid his ass down for this guy. Disgusting really

Dix, by your standard this horse turns 9 in a couple days.

Maybe the owner just wants to send him out a winner? The class, being fresh, maybe that will be enough for this old boy to get the job done one more time? I doubt it.

I think Dicksie has abused the priviledge. Might be time for a change.

while all this Dixie bashing is in keeping with the spirit of the forum,
the man is right.

most of us are not horsemen and its NEVER our place to tell another man what to do with his property.
there is a concept of property rights here that I guess a lot of you dont get.

If this Cole dude wants to hitch a wagon to shake you down and give kids a ride around the block for $1/ride, then thats what he should do.
its his horse.
and if he wants to run him for 5k, then I thats what he should do.

its a RACEhorse.
never understood why someone would not want a racehorse to race.

Pent,

While I generally agree that racehorses are meant to race, in this case there is some back story. Cole said he had been keeping an eye on Shake after he had been claimed away from him and that he was taking him back as 'he's been so good to me'. That intimated that he was claiming him back to retire him. Now he's entered for a nickel? Horsebleep..

The horse made Cole. He's so obviously a shadow of himself, why subject him to any more racing at this point? Having banked $1.4 million, he's earned a retirement.

The good news is that the 'drivel' here is resulting in some action being taken to see that Shake You Down is purchased privately before Wednesday and given a nice home for his post racing career.

Thanks for the pass BK...
but I have to ask you, how is it not a good thing that fans of a horse (regardless of their level of actual horse experience or knowledge) want to see a deserving animal enjoy a safe retirement? Instead of watching him flounder lower and lower down the claiming ranks until one day he finds himself on his last trailer ride?

Whatever you think of the people who post here they're far better human beings than Cole ...they recognize that the horse has done enough.

You know as well as I do that the horse is likely sore and hurting otherwise he wouldn't be where he is today...he has banked more than a million dollars, most of it for cole.
You tell me...when will he have done enough?
