Bama's offer to Saban

This is crazy:

"The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins head coach Nick Saban turned down a $5 million a year salary for 10 years and a signing bonus of $7 million from Alabama. West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez is expected to be offered a very large contract in the next 24 hours"

That's some CRAZY money being thrown around there!! Saban is nuts for not taking college over the Pros....maybe he didn't want the recruiting headaches?

I don't think they'd have to go that much bigger. This was pretty interesting if you click on the chart you can see salaries....

Cajun: that would be a 100% raise, but I think there is a penalty clause in his contract, which Bama would certainly pay!

Hey, I posted on this board it was Rich Rodriguez almost a week ago!
and I can say with 100% accuracy that an offer to Saben was NEVER made,
even one for 5 mill
and so can ESPN's Chris Mortensen (just reported) if you do not believe me
Bama would never do something like that
Coach Rod will be presented either tonight or tomorrow
he has already stated he will not be at the Gator Bowl

it's funny, being somewhat "in the know" during this search
now I don't have any "juice" but I know some people who do
so I now understand why people like Oracle laugh at the media
they have no clue what's going on, and when they don't
they'll write up a bunch of garbage to try to force someone to
show their hand~ because how is Coach Rod going to feel if he hears
we offered Saben 5, Spurrier 4, and him 2, it's BS, and never happened
Neinas blew smoke and all the while RR was the main objective

I'm happy for Bama, I think it's a great hire, but on the other hand I sure don't like how the guy handeled it.

"All along, he reiterated that he planned to finish his coaching career at West Virginia "if they'll have me." Apparently, he didn't believe they would have him at the price of the facilities and BCS-maintaining pace that he desired."

On the other front, now WVU is on the prowl. Funny, here in central PA the PSU faithful is very concerned about losing Bradley, one because he's a heck of a defensive coordinator, secondly...he's their primary recruiter in Western PA.

"As for potential replacements, Mountaineers administrators likely will consider LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Salem University; Florida associate head coach/safeties John "Doc" Holliday, a Hurricane, W.Va., native and from 1979-99 a Mountaineers assistant after three letter-winning seasons at linebacker; New Orleans Saints assistant George "Duke" Henshaw, a 1967-69 Mountaineers lineman; and possibly Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley and East Carolina coach Skip Holtz."
