I guess we will play Hollywood tomorrow due to the huge pool but Cushion track is proving to be very hard to get a handle on.
I would suggest trying to single grass races and spreading out the cushion.

That was my initial thought, but the grass races are tough, with the exception of Pistol Creek. The 8th (the other turf race) is hard. I like Imagine and Tea Cakes. But I could make an case for 3 others in that race. I havent really followed Hollywood and the Cushion Track so I dont know how it has been playing.

I have a couple potential singles, and interestingly none of yours match mine. I have all of yours in the mix, though... i just can't stand on Harvard Avenue alone (even though he's clearly the one to beat.) The race off the layoff was just OK. Will use him equally with Buckland Manor who may love the Cushion and a small backup on Gotaghostofachance who if he's right is the equal to the others and is training up a storm, however given the trainer's record off the long layoff i expect this to be a conditioning run only.

R4: #3 Ferndale Sal: Was 4 wide in his last but only missed by 2 as the 2nd choice and wheels back 6 days later, was in for $80K but drops back to his proper level of $50K.

R5: #5 I B Bad: Is simply 3-4 lengths better than the rest of this field, a legit $12,000 horse, so unless he's completely crippled he'll lap this group of ragtags. Not a fan of singling in a 13 horse field but the rest of these are $5K Los Alamitos types.

R6: #3 Jump Rope Girl: Drops from MSW (As a few others are) after nearly wiring the field down the hill at SA (almost impossible to do) after getting the 6F in 1:08, steaming fast for 2YO's on that course. Looks to be the only early speed in here.

Nothing wrong with chasing a price, but Pair of Events is going to have to make up 4-5 lengths on the 6, as they both exit the same pair of races in which the 5 was well beaten with no real excuse. The 6 gets a positive rider switch and the 5 sticks with "chopped up" Chavez. The 5 is a pretty easy exclusion for me.

Outside of the 6, I like the 9, a Giants Causeway FTS from Sherriffs, who has this one working well and is outstanding having them ready to roll; the 2, who goes Poly-turf for Mullins after setting the pace and should find herself in a good spot entering the far turn; and the 8 who had 2 good attempts on turf last fall before hitting the bench for almost a year.

My ticket will be 6,9 main and 2,8 backup or 6 main 2,8,9 backup, depending on how I spread in the other races.

A 78 beyer would be good enough to win this but I think a 14 point improvement projection is rather aggressive with no other tangential changes. If you have a live ticket and I don't at that stage i'll be rooting for you because this IS the kind of horse that makes a pick 6 gangbusters. I don't think she's impossible and i'd be apt to take a shot on her in a p3 or p4 but it's just too expensive to get her on mine.

Keg tap is very intriguing. Got dumped for 4K in NoCal and the sharp claimer Koriner picks him up. This guy is a "miracle working" type, he doesn't need to improve much to be back in the mix with this group. I'm using him on my backup ticket for sure.

My problem with Tommyland is his best recent races were at Fpx which is essentially an extension of Los Al, so $5k there isn't even worth $5k, as evidenced by him getting clobbered at the $10k level at OSA. The trainer has a lot of bad horses and hardly wins. Exotics player but I don't like him to win. If he beats me he beats me.

Proud Cece was about 5 lengths the best the other day(against Dry Your Eyes.)I can't see an excuse for DYI in that one.Cece has been best in her last 3 or 4 turf races, but what a nut that one is.Sloppy(and impatient) girl looks awfully hard to ride. You can't leave CECE(gunna win on turf soon) or The Marty Wygod horse off the ticket. If Marty doesn't sell them, then they can usually win pretty quickly.Maybe DYI was too close to a fast pace.I don't think you want to make excuses too long for her.She should have taken that last one.

I agree on the 9. Cannot leave that one off the ticket. I hate it when they bury these maiden races late, you cannot get any clues from the board. but on trainer, owner, pedigree, works alone she's 3-1 to win in my mind.

I've gone back and forth about 5 times on Cece, but you say don't make excuses for DYE but Cece is 0-16 with 1 third, which is too many chances, and if i include her it'll be very minor. I thought DYE ran a bang up last two and the jock switch to PVal may be the final push she needs.

Could be, but I hate to single in the 1st leg. But if you hit it, you are stacked for the next 5.

The difference between Proud Cecy, and Dry Your Eyes is that Proud Cecy has run 4 times on turf, and been blocked/clipped heels in 3 of those 4 races. She is a clumsy ox,but can we agree she would have broke her maiden the other day if she didn't clip heels? She is the only one really full of run when that happened."Dry" was done giving her best. So,I am saying Cece has the energy (if she can get out of her own way.) I don't know about this "Dry" horse. They started her for 25k claiming, and she hung like a 25k claimer the other day.The race before, she came too late in a race that is kind of slow(a bit.)I say she runs 2nd or 3rd again.Maybe Cece can't run good on the turns. When she levels off in the stretch, she is flying pretty good. She was there the other day(full of run,) but she is a slob, and basically tried to run a couple horses over.Anyways,I can see your point. She is not a high intellect girl. She is beating herself by not minding her manners on the backstretch. She pulls, and acts like other horses don't exist.I would just watch the 4 turf races though(much better than dirt.)

As far as #9 Imagine goes.....this girl is like a daughter of California Royalty. Her momma is Smooth Player, and she could get it done on turf.Right now,I am using She's All Magic,Proud Cece, and Imagine. If I have to single,I am going with this fancy-bred girl(Imagine.)

Smooth Player Shocks With Excellent Performance

At odds of nearly 14-1 Smooth Player held off odds-on favorite Excellent Meeting at the wire to win the Grade 2 $150,000 Hollywood Oaks by a half length at Hollywood Park Saturday. After fighting for the lead most of the way with Nanny’s Sweep, this homebred of John Spohler and Marty and Pam Wygod kicked clear at the top of the stretch and then held off a strong rally from Excellent Meeting.

Trained by Dan Hendricks and ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, the three-year-old daughter of Bertrando out of the Pirate’s Bounty mare Shy Pirate was timed in the 1 1/8 mile distance over a fast main track in 1:48 1/5 off fractions of :23 2/5, :46 3/5, 1:10 3/5 and 1:35 3/5.Smooth Player was coming off a victory in the restricted California Sires Stakes at Golden Gate in her last start.

“She’s a race horse,” Hendricks said. “She’s a homebred, I trained her mother, and she was a race horse. Her brothers were race horses. They just try and you can’t ask for more from a horse.”

It was supposed to be the first half of a possible weekend graded stakes double for Bob Baffert, Golden Eagle Farm, and stallion General Meeting.

“Can’t be Christmas every day. You get beat, just forget about it and go on,” Baffert said.

3 big scratches in the 5th at HWD:

1A Talking To John (KY)
1 Rashard Lamar (CA)
9 Bound For Victory (KY)

I figured Ted West to be the one to send something to kill that chalk, but he gone.No doubt I B BAD gets late in the final furlong(pretty much going up n' down in the final 16th .)There just isn't much left now.High Z would have a much better shot if he could get off that rail, and get a regular jock.Tommyland is a classic 1 run 7f horse, but still may not be good enough. The KEG TAP has a shot.Kristin's horse is just 2 for 36.Ribomoon doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with anything but a short track. What's this horse(I B B) going off? 2 to 5?

Have to agree with you on I B Bad. So far the only single i've identified. Clear standout here.
