Default Slots At Ohio Horse Tracks, Real Close

I am off to sleep in a few minutes, gotta be at work early tomorrow. Too close to call per the local news media, showing 51% in favor 49% not.

Have a great night everyone, it seems the Democrats right now have the ball in their court.

I hope not because my home track Great Lakes Downs will go by the wayside. I've gotten two horses there running and two more in training for the next year. Maybe I ought to get me some Ohio bred's now while the getting is good.

this sucks.
we need OH racing to gain significance in the midwest seeing that 2 of the top 3 KY tracks dont even have dirt anymore.

I like OH's 3 major tracks.

People think Slots are a cure all. La. allots the majority of the 'slot money to state bred races. This has little affect on increasing the quality of racing at a venue. Maybe in the long run it will influnce a few more quality breeding operation but very little affect of atracting more quality horses.OK percentage is more favorable for increasing Open races and thus can intice some of the big hitters to escalate there stakes program. This slot money needs to be monitered and lets see what it accomplishes. My cynical way of looking at it is it will be a cash cow for the politicans..

The issue lost. In fact, it got crushed. It lost by like 58% to 42%. What is even worse is that Ohioans passed an increase in minimum wage. The new wage will be $6.85. When will people realize that increasing minimum wage will do absolutely nothing. In fact, it will make things worse. Making more money is not always the best answer. Sucks about the VLT's. I think Ohio is really missing the boat on this one. It isnt a cure all, but it cant hurt.

That sucks for Ohio racing people. That could mean a lot of people leaving
Ohio for more lucrative purses in Pennsylvania and the demise of Ohio racing. This means the trainers from Thistledowns could start running their horses at Presque Isle Downs in Erie which is supposed to start racing in Sept 2007. The slots are going to start ringing Nov 14 in Pa. at Pocono Downs and possibly 2-3 other tracks before the end of the year. Now in Maryland there might be a good chance of getting slots now because the Republican Gov. Ehrlich lost. He was a huge supporter of Racing in Md. and never got it past because the Dems. were playing party politics. Hopefully now they will stop fighting against each other pass a slots bill, if they don't Maryland racing is heading down a dead end road with a lot of horsemen moving their stock to Pa.. We moved our two mares out Md. now there in Pa. to take advantage of Pa. Bred bonuses. But we still breed to Md. Stallions which are more superior than Pa. stallions to be eligible for Maryland Million Races and take advantage of also Delaware Certified program in which a weanling or yearling has to be stabled in Delaware for 90 days at farm and you become eligible for 15% purse bonus for running first, second, and third in any race at Del Park with there big purses. Now are horses are Pa. Bred, Maryland Million eligible and Delaware certified

From my understanding and I could be wrong, but it wasn't going to effect the people in Cincinnati, alot of people around here voted against it, because they thought it was not going to be any good for us...Maybe that's correct or just a perception, but I heard alot of people around here saying they were for it, but against it, because it wouldn't help us, I find it hard to believe with River Downs located here, but maybe in the future, it will be more representative and get through...

Nov 1st was the last day up here for live. I might send one to Thistledown's next week or so. The other ones aren't ready until mid june/july as two year olds. The other has burned the bottom of her hooves bad the last few times out so she's done for the year. Keep in touch though here and I'll hook you up so you'll be able to go into the saddle area.
