Default Vazquez arrested for McCarthy attack; Romans beats down Injun Chuck

"According to sources who were at Delaware Park on Monday, Vazquez approached McCarthy as he was weighing in after the fourth race, the two exchanged words and Vazquez hit McCarthy multiple times. Vazquez then left the premises before being arrested later in the day. McCarthy, who was checked out by track medical personnel, did ride his remaining two mounts on the card."

It's a frustrating game, even when you're a Juice trainer like Vazquez is.

I'd like to physically assault Luis Rivera for his ride on Miss Benburb in the 3rd at Mountaineer, tonight.

The 8-3 exacta was paying just over $300

I have a $50 exacta 8-3 and a $30 exacta 3-8.

Rivera rode a very weak race on the 3 and still surges from 10 lengths back, to get beat, for 2nd, by just a nose:

I end up losing $130 instead of winning 8k.

There's a lot of angry moments when you're a bettor. Sometimes even on Tuesday nights.

What I find interesting is why the head-on replay is not available in questionable races that have an inquiry.

Twinspires have all the head-on replays for the other races except for Race 1 at Delaware.

DRF: Vazquez suspended 90 days, plans to appeal
By Jim Dunleavy

Trainer Juan Vazquez was suspended 90 days and fined $2,500 on Thursday by the Delaware Park stewards for being the aggressor in an altercation near the winner’s circle following the fourth race at the track last Monday. Vazquez will also have to attend and complete an anger management course approved by the stewards before his license is restored to good standing.

Vazquez reportedly punched jockey Trevor McCarthy after the fourth race Monday and McCarthy fought back. Vazquez left the track after the fight but returned after being contacted by a Delaware Racing Commission official. He was then arrested by Delaware State Police and charged with assault. That charge is still pending.

Vazquez and McCarthy attended a stewards’ hearing Wednesday.

Vazquez’s suspension is scheduled to begin Sunday, but John F. Wayne, executive director of the Delaware Racing Commission, said Vazquez contacted him after the stewards’ ruling was released and said he planned to contact an attorney and appeal.

This is not the first time Vazquez has been involved in a violent exchange. He was suspended for 30 days by the Maryland Racing Commission in February 2013 for being the aggressor in an altercation at the Bowie training center. That suspension was stayed on the grounds that Vazquez not be involved in another violent incident during the 2013 Maryland racing season.

DRF: Police investigate Romans-'Indian Charlie' scuffle
By Marty McGee

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Stewards at Churchill Downs said they were awaiting police and security reports before deciding whether to schedule a hearing in regard to a fistfight that occurred Thursday morning in the stable area between Eclipse Award-winning trainer Dale Romans and Ed Musselman, publisher of the controversial Indian Charlie newsletter.

Romans and eyewitnesses said Musselman provoked the fight, which brought Louisville Metro Police to the stable area. Musselman was reported by various sources to have suffered a black eye and abrasions, while Romans said he was not seriously injured.

Musselman’s newsletter was banished from numerous tracks earlier this year after racist comments, leading to most of his advertisers abandoning him.

Romans often has been the subject of Musselman’s diatribes and has said repeatedly he could not understand why the attacks became so personal.

“I wanted to talk to him,” Romans told the Paulick Report, “but as soon as I got close to him he swung at me. The good thing is he swung like an 80-year-old man. I had to defend myself, so I punched him. I didn’t mean to hurt him, but I think I hurt him pretty bad.”

Romans admitted that this “wasn’t my first rodeo. I came up on the rough side of town, but I would never fight on the backside of Churchill Downs.”

During the brawl, Romans – who said he’s lost 60 pounds in recent months – had his pants and belt both fall down to his ankles.

“My pants are too big because I’m as fit as I’ve been in a long time,” he said. “They fell down to my ankles and all I could do is sting like a bee, because I couldn’t float like a butterfly or do the Ali shuffle.”

Maybe Romans intimidated him by making IC think he wanted to play tummy sticks with him?
