Mine That Bird was the slowest at 79. Charismatic (who twice ran for CLM tags) and Animal Kingdom were tied for second slowest at 84.

* Of the 398 horses nominated to the Derby -- 122 of them Have run a 79+ Beyer. The rest of them would be clearly slower than Mine That Bird (who had three straight figures in the High 70's - all routing on synthetic) and can be tossed.


Nominations spiked this year -- and people nominated a lot more unraced horses and bums than normal.

There are about 100 horses nominated who've run at least a 79 and have either raced since last November or have been working for a race.


16 of the last 20 Ky Derby winners have run a 90+ Beyer by this point.

There are 25 such horses nominated and they include the likes of Overdriven (No races or workouts since last July) and Renee's Got Zip (Filly sprinter)

17 of the 25 are included in Derby Future pool #1.


Inevitably -- one or two pretty decent unnominated horses will get supplamented for $6,000 in March. However, since nominations spiked this year, that's not a certainty.
