Default The OTB...gotta love it

Was out running a few errands and I swung by the OTB to pick of the Form for tomorrow. It hadn't arrived yet, but the guy said they would be there in 30 minutes, so I figure I would wait around. I absolutely saw one of the funniest things I have ever seen...

I am standing about 20 feet behind a guy, about my age, that is sitting at the bar, drunk as a skunk...at 1:30 in the afternoon mind you. Dude is drinking Bud like they are gonna quit bottling it tomorrow. A race at Suffolk goes off and right away he is screaming at the top of his lungs at the #3 horse. Screams at it the whole way around the track and it ends up finishing 2nd. He cussing and raising a fuss, etc...

2 minutes later, the replay of the race starts...and yep...SCREAMING at the 3 horse to get up the whole way around the track....ON THE REPLAY!!!!! Curses his luck again after the race that the 3 horse didn't win.
I was almost on the floor crying from laughing so hard.

I should be careful about what I say, that is liable to be Scavs, Sent To Stud, and myself this coming winter at Gulfstream

HA HA! Would have loved to see that one.

On a side note, let me know where you guys are going to be at at the track so I can have my video camera focused on you guys. We have to get that on tape...

sounds like something i would do a couple years ago

drunk people at the track / otb are the best entertainment your gambling dollar can find, until they get annoying

beulah has a 2 mile race every year. last 2 years i have been at the track when it was run and we ALWAYS make side bets on who is gonna be yelling at the horse(s) when they come around the first time, thinking it is the end cause they are tote board bettors, no program

You ever need hope to continue on or just to feel good about yourself, pop into an OTB any weekday and check out some of the critters there, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. Unbelievable what this game attracts.

Those are some die hard gamblers...

Going to open up an account this weekend so I can bet some of these races. Just on weekends. Hubby and I made a pact to not bet during the week.

Its Manhattan and there are too many other things going on that would divert a lot of the normal people (who take showers) from wanting to bet, especially during the week. Plus a lot of normal people (who take showers) have the means to open up phone and internet accounts, thus eliminating the need to walk into an OTB ever. That leaves a lot of crispy critters, and there are many, even in glorious old mid town.

Kev,
This might seem like a dumb question, but does the OTB you normally go to offer Greyhound wagering as well?

Try the OTB on 5th ave. in Brooklyn. You need a shower when you leave there. The one in Shirley, Long Island is pretty gross too. KP

Yes sir, it defies logic even to a NY'er like me.. You'd figure midtown would attract at least some fairly sophisticated gamblers, but that place is just as bad as, if not worse than the places I go to in Brooklyn.

As an aside- anybody remember the racebooks in Vegas like the Rose Bowl where they called the races over a speaker (no TV?) THAT was worth the price of admission...
