Pretty incredible. As the announcer said I only remember seeing Nolan Ryan do that. |

![]() I thought the strike zone was all over the place, and very inconsistent.

![]() I think the blue box that TBS has is either not calibrated properly or just plain not accurate.
It seems, that pitches outside the box towards third base are consistantly being called strikes and then pitches inside the box on the first base side are called balls (in multiple games and multiple stadiums). They really need to just take it down. It is making the umpires look awful. |

Seems like as long as the umpires union answers to nobody, intelligent compromises like the tennis people have can never be used. Giving a manager so many "tennis like" challenges a game for ball and strike calls wouldn't add all that much time to a game since the tennis version seems to be over in 20 secs and would force these umps to adjust these bad strike zones or be embarassed nightly . The present system has no incentive for the umps to improve. |

![]() The TBS box is making things look worse than they are. Just as super slo-mo makes umps and refs look bad on a constant basis.
Each ump has their own zone and players adapt to it, that's the way it's always been and that's the way it should be. Calls go both ways and the incentive for umpires is the post season. If you want to come up with a system for challanging a play in the field, I could understand it, but you can't be serious about challanging balls and strikes. It would be a disaster and games that take too long now will take even longer.

![]() I wouldn't have a problem with managers being able to challenge a safe/out call. For instance, I'm still pretty sure Ramon Santiago was safe on that second inning double play call from yesterday.

![]() And he seems to do it so easy. His 88 mph slider is ridiculously nasty as well, especially when its down in the zone.

![]() once saw Nolan Ryan and Frank Tanana back to back against red sox, whwn Tanana threw almost as hard as Ryan. It was a life changing experience. met Ryan and got a ball autographed. You wouldn't mess with that cat. he looks like he coukd knock you out with an open hander

![]() The home plate ump made up for it with a bunch of really high strike calls in the 8th. He was woefully inconsistent.
