Default Strange prescience?

Was watching the classic trials from Newbury yesterday, the Fred Darling and Greenham. Since I enjoy the race a bit more if I have a rooting interest, I settled on Puff in the Fred Darling, since she didn't belong to one of the big stables and I had never heard of her sire. Lo and behold, she won!

Okay, for the Greenham, I went with Dick Turpin, because his damsire is Sharrood, whose own damsire was My Own True Love, Cougar II. (Got to keep that bloodline going forward.) Obligingly, his stablemate, the heavy favorite, started going sideways as much as forward in the late going and my boy got up to hit the wire first. Handicapping? We don't need no stinking' handicapping!

Of course, I hadn't had a penny on either of them; if I had, they would have found a way to lose.
