Default Farewell, Viewed

Sad Passing of Viewed
Tara Madgwick
Sunday, 18 April 2010

Top class stayer Viewed, winner of the 2008 Melbourne Cup and 2009 Caulfield Cup, has died suddenly at Think Big Stud over the weekend.

A six year-old entire with racetrack earnings of $6million in prizemoney, Viewed suffered an attack of colic and died of a twisted bowel on Saturday morning and has been buried at his owner Dato Tan Chin Nam’s Think Big Stud on the Southern Highlands.

“We were looking forward to a repeat Cups campaign for him and then a stud career at Think Big,” said Duncan Ramage, Bloodstock Manager for Dato Tan Chin Nam.

“There are many people close to him who are very upset.”

Bred by Ian Johnson, Viewed was purchased out of the paddock by Duncan Ramage on behalf of Dato Tan Chin Nam for $50,000 as a yearling and the colt by Scenic (IRE) from Lover’s Knot was sent to join the stable of ‘Cups King’ Bart Cummings.

Given time to mature he won his first race at Warwick Farm in February 2007 as a three year-old and after working through the grades gave notice of better things to come when winning the Group Two QTC Brisbane Cup in 2008 by seven lengths.

Sent to Melbourne for the spring carnival of that year, his form appeared only average leading into the Melbourne Cup, but on the day Viewed pulled out a virtuoso performance to give Bart Cummings his 12th win in Australia’s greatest race at odds of $41.

Viewed maintained his form at the elite level of racing and returned to Melbourne last spring to defeat stablemate Roman Emperor in the Caulfield Cup, scoring a dominant two and a half length win under 57 kg, arguably the finest win of his career.

After two sub-standard runs at the start of the autumn, Viewed (picured at Think Big with Duncan Ramage, photo, Caroline Searcy) was sent to the paddock as a result of virus with the expectation of returning this spring for further conquests on the track…. sadly for his many fans and adoring connections he has run his last race.

That's very sad to hear. He was probably in a lot of pain.
