![]() Aqueduct casino operator named
By Matt Hegarty http://www.drf.com/news/article/110472.html Government leaders including Gov. David Paterson have selected a wide-ranging partnership that calls itself Aqueduct Entertainment Group to operate a slot-machine casino at Aqueduct racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y., according to a statement released by Paterson late on Friday. The selection of Aqueduct Entertainment Group could end a drawn-out selection process that has proceeded in fits and starts over the past several years because of economic and political considerations. The casino was first legalized for Aqueduct late in 2001, and though Delaware North, a casino operator, was selected late in 2008 to operate the casino, the deal fell apart early in 2009 after the company could not make good on promises it had made with the state in its operating agreement. Aqueduct Entertainment Group includes the Navegante Group, a casino developer headed by Larry J. Woolf, the former chief executive of MGM Grand Hotels; GreenStar Services Corporation, a New York-based construction company; Turner Construction Company, also based in New York; Levine Builders, a New York construction company; the Darman Group, a construction consulting company that bills itself as a "wholly minority-owned firm"; PS&S Design, a construction consulting company; Siemens, the electrical engineering company; and Clairvest Group, a Canadian merchant bank. Morgan Hook, a spokesperson for Paterson, said the governor's office hopes to hammer out a contract in the next 30 days with AEG covering the obligations for the operation of the casino. After that, construction on the casino could begin, Hook said.

![]() This group looks more suited to raze the track and put up a shopping mall than to run a casino. Wonder how many wallets got fatter in Albany to get this deal done.

![]() This is certainly not a done deal yet. Looks like another example the corrupt politicians in New York using horse racing as a way to grease themselves and their friends. Some vetting process, one of the partners convicted of ripping off the government of $500,000. This group really looks like they have racing's interest as their highest priority. Incredible!

![]() Now Silver going to block this deal, looks like the right thing, but for the wrong reasons. Though it is hard to argue that it is wrong to hand this to criminals, but then again, I doubt whoever Silver wants is any better. New York needs to clean house with these clowns. Unfortunately, this saga appears to be far from over. Government corruption at its pinnacle.

As for Eric Adams, he is just another political hack who is right in the pocket of many involved in AEG and those promoting this group such as Floyd Flake and Malcolm Smith. As a former cop, I would love to know what Adams credentials are for being the Senate Racing and Wagering Committee Chairman. Unfortunately, it is hard to believe that this group cares about racing at all and shoving through a group of politically connected criminals for the sake of getting this up and running does not sound like a plan for the long term success of racing. The real problem is that since Silver does not have this group in his pocket he is opposing it. The need for a legitimate operator should be imperitive here, but until these political hacks are bounced, it is unlikely to happen. |

![]() In this economy you have to take their $100,000,000 increase over their intitial offer seriously . Hope they can work out the wrinkles and turn that shovel quickly. After that point government audits and oversight will keep that racino on course - we hope. As usual this might be little ado about nothing.
