Default Amazing 2yo Debut

On a push from www.twitter.com/derbycontenders, I just watched a replay of the 10th at Turfway Sunday. Connemara was left at the gate and made an amazing last-to-first move that carried him right on to the wire. Pletcher trains this Giant's Causeway colt and while you'd have to assume this one isn't a first-stringer since he's racing at Turfway, this was a fantastic debut.

Also check out the last from TWP on Saturday...also a Pletcher-Tabor- G Cway hombred that drew an outside post debuting going 2 turns that breaks dead last. I had gd size win bet on this one.

I saw the race and he looked good coming down the stretch as he kept to task inopening lengths. If he can handle dirt he'll be a good one to remember for 3yr old races.

First off, now that is a Derby horse name. Doesn't mean he's gonna get there, but should he, well that name won't embarrass anybody and sounds kinda cool. Is there a way to see the race online (not the wagering sites, I can't get those in my state)? One of these days I'm gonna break down and join Twitter, ugh. Maybe someone there has the video posted on their page.

Also just another horse book observation, The Blind Connemara by C.W. Anderson, great for kids. This horse's name reminded me of that fond memory.

Connemara is a crappy golf course in Lexington so I doubt that's where it's derived, more than likely the town in Ireland.

Speaking of Ireland, how many Irish-referencing names do we have on the (early) Derby trail thus far? Dublin, Connemara, and you could argue Luckin' at Lucky makes you think of Lucky Charms or four leaf clovers or something.

i have a connemara marble bracelet. since the colt is by giants causeway, who is named for a famous landmark made of stone, i could see why they'd name him for marble from ireland.

edit~ here you go..
