Default Benny the Bull

Back to defend his True North title.

Can he win off such a ridiculous layoff?

Against top sprinters like Kodiak Kowboy, Fabulous Strike and the unlucky Desert Key?

Not yet. I just read this in an article on DRF. I didnt think Rick was going to run Benny in this spot, but he wants a race in him before the Summit of Speed and this fits timing wise.

Ya me too. I am always wrong with him. Last summer he beat me out of what would have been the biggest score of my life when he headed Desert Key at Saratoga. Definite thorn in my side. I will be strongly against him on Saturday!

Funny, the entries are up for Monmouth on Saturday and Benny is entered in the Longfellow Stakes there. Very interesting. Maybe he'll run in both races, LOL! The True North goes off at 2:30 so he could run in that and then be driven to Monmouth to make the 4:50 post time. Would be quite a feat, but if anyone could "pull it off" its Dutrow.

I don't know who this guy is, but he better be good if he's going to race against Fabulous Strike!

He won this race last year, and then came back to win at the Summit of Speed. Hes really good but been plagued with injuries.

He knows who he is. He's busting your balls because his name is Benny THE Bull.

Sorry, the "A" instead of the "The" was a big deal.
I'll get it right from now on.

I was thinking this is going to be a good betting race but the field size is short. Looks like:

Fabulous Strike 4/5
Benny the Bull 2/1
Desert Key 4/1
Two Step Salsa 10/1
Silver Edition 12/1
Sixthirteen 30/1

I'd bet Two Step Salsa at that price.

Tim,

I forget who wrote or said this a number of years ago, but it has always stayed with me as a handicapping maxim as it has proven out. In advance of a BC Sprint where a major player was coming in off an extended break, the point was made by a capper or trainer that sprinters can perform at their best first race back without issue, as opposed to two turn horses who under most conditions, generally need a race to reach peak fitness.

Thanks Steve. I am a big fan of Benny but also Desert Key. This is a very tough race for me to get too involved with but I am leaning towards not using Benny, rather Desert Key the most and a little Fabulous Strike for obvious reasons.

Should be a fantastic undercard & Belmont Stakes!
