Default Del Mar's Future

According to the Bloodhorse.com "Del Mar Fairgrounds is one of several prominent state-owned properties that California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposes selling to help cut into a $15-billion budget deficit, according to a published report". If Hollywood Park ends this year, Santa Anita on the auction block, and now this (And Del Mar is oceanside property), things are looking bleak for SoCal racing.

the initial estimate for a sale of the del mar fairgrounds is $350,000,000 to the state.

one...this is just a proposal by the governor and it would take action by the legislature to put a "for sale" sign on any of the assets proposed, including del mar. opposition in the legislature is already pointing out selling in a down real estate market might not be the smartest way out of budget issues.

and even if a sale should be completed, i wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it means the end of racing. why wouldn't the new owner want a paying tenant?

It has major Flood issues that would have to be navigated.

This is just a bunch of sH^t by Arnold.

This is just a ploy to scare voters into voting for the budget measures - which at the moment isn't certain.

If it passes we have a $15 Billion shortfall - if it doesn't it's something like $25 Billion.

What's the difference - either way we are fucl<ed.
