Default question about the synthetic surface

hopefully this makes sense, if curlin was trying to help his stud career by being able to race on turf, why wouldn't it help it if he was able to race on a synthetic track, since some of the tracks are racing on that surface.

Your question makes more sense than the theory that Curlin's stud career would be helped by running on the turf.

His connectons tried the turf to see if they could open him up to international
races in Europe, and add another dimension to him. He was so-so on turf and the belief is if he ran sub-par on turf he would not run well on synthectic. I think they should try, even if he lost it would not hurt his credentials.

After Scott and Steve go to Santa Anita. Get a first hand look at the track. You may get your wish. The Pro Ride seems to be tuned up nicely.

After todays B- performance I dont think the connections want to even go to BC Classic even if it was on regular dirt.

i have another question.... just because a horse is a good turf runner doesn't always mean that their form will continue on a synthetic surface? so who is to know that curlin couldn't perform well on it, since he hasn't tried it.

They need to retire him immediately or put him in a barn where the trainer isn't being watched for juicin' 24/7. Something is up with this horse. Almost didn't break 40 for the final 3 furlongs. That's just beyond horrendous for the top dirt horse in training.

I was thinking about this as well, but the market hasn't made the adjustment to paying for superior synthetic sires and we really don't have enough data to know who will be a good synth sire long term. I think the biggest drawback to the theory now is that the classics and majority of G1 races are still on the dirt or turf. This is changing, but having the BC move around won't be enough to demand quality breeding for that surface...JMO

But I am sure this deserves a separate thread
