Default Kent clears everything up

Very interesting, if not illuminating, discussion between Kent and Dan Patrick.

Clears it all up.

Wasn't it Denis of Cork who blew by Big Brown at the end of the second turn?

What's Patrick's hard on for how much Desormeaux gets/got paid?

"Clears it Up?" How? Now he is saying that he needed to use this horse in the first part and he had nothing left at a mile? That the horse slipped at the start? You believe that? Look at 2007, Rags goes to her knees at the start. Rags wins. The start wasn't bad at all. He got checked, settled and then pushed Anak Nakal out of the way to get outside. On the backside he settled well. Obviously, BB didn't respond to KD's urging. KD then gave up. He tells you at the end. It isn't about the horse, he says "I was hopeful to become an immortal in the game, and an historical name in the game, but you know what, I'm not done yet. I'm not going anywhere." It is about him. This is the same guy that said, and I heard him, "missing the triple crown with Real Quiet wasn't nearly as upsetting as missing the Saratoga riding title last season." He's already an immortal to some of us. I'll never forget what an a@@ he is.

I have a hard time believing the early trip did him in. He was all done by the 5 F pole. Real good horses can overcome having their preferred trip taken away and he didn't do it. Not at all. I can see the start costing him the race if he'd fought at least a little harder a little longer. But I just can't buy the trip took so much out of him that he was done when he was. Same goes for the track condition.

My guess is the foot -- or something else -- was bothering him and he wrapped himself up. But they don't talk so who knows. But as much as he dominated his prior three fields, he really had no non-physical excuse to run so bad.

"What I don't like is the fact that Real Quiet, Funny Cide and now Big Brown all ran on the exact same dates and they all failed. May 4, May 17 and June 7. It's kind of, I don't like it. I didn't know that beforehand, I know it now."

I don't get the point of this statement.

No one has really brought up the point/question, but BB was a horse with what 6 career starts and racing for the third time in 5 weeks. Add that to the tempertaure and a little adversity (rail, catching a little dirt) which he has never had. The loss in training time due to the foot. Plus racing against fresher (not neccesarly better) horses. Maybe it was just a recipe for disaster. I just don't think Kent did anything wrong.

Just read it and was thinking what Scav just posted. It can't be that the horse was tired, it was hot, etc...Has to be a reason to point the finger of blame.

Wonder who'll be on BB in The Travers now

Not that it matters if he's a "push button horse"

Honestly I do think he has a bit of a point about pulling up Big Brown, it was alarming and I'm sure most people feared the worst.

It was more the whining about him not going back to the barn to see BB after the race and saying that he knew BB went into the race unbelievable and the rest Kent has to answer.

Sounds like a poll question to me!

i had the exact same thinking before the race leading me to believe that a bad effort was not inconcievable. you had:
-3rd start in five weeks for a horse that they said needs time between races.
-the quartercrack and loss of training time.
-questionable to be at his best for the distance -at least in my mind.
-a declining pattern since the Florida derby.
-possible problem with the heat
-no recent winstrol

there were some trouble signs.

I probably missed it elsewhere, but assuming he does run again (big if) Kent seems to think they will run twice, Travers then Breeders Cup. I sure was hoping to see him try olders on dirt, but that ain't happening.

the horse just bounced.... not like it's been done before... nor will be done after.

due to that, there's nothing that Kent could have done to prevented it.... nor anyone else.

He'll bouce back the next out, just like any other horse would... let alone a proven champion like Big Brown.

It wasn't the horses's fault, nor the jock's.... it's just something that happens in racing. And a proven champion like Big Brown and Kent will come back as the champions that they are.

I don't get the point of this statement.
I don't get the math of this statement. Since when do they run the Derby and Preakness 13 days apart? Is this a typo or is Kent just an idiot? It's only been a month and he can't remember the day he won a Kentucky Derby? Maybe he didn't remember the Belmont was a 1 1/2 mile race.
