Default The employment of John Imbriale and Jan Rushton

One can only hope that the "new " NYRA and their upcoming "new" deal might go find some "new" employees.

I know there is no way they are going to find someone to replace Imbriale, but didn't he retire a few year's back? He is getting worse by the day and making up some serious ground in the stretch on the worst of the worst, Mike Battaglia. Check out Imbriale's call of the stretch drive in the 4th yesterday. A four way charge to the wire at the 1/8 pole suddenly loses one of the participants and he makes no mention of it at all.

Now onto the one and only Ms Rushton. If the state wants to investigate NYRA for wrong doings shouldn't they start here? How does this woman have a job? And it's even worse when you have to listen to her all day and then listen to her doing the recap show at night. Can someone please explain what she does to warrant a paycheck? When she gives the overview from the paddock she basically reads the "closer look" out of the racing form. When she does the recap at night she makes more mistakes than a 3rd grader taking a 9th grade spelling test. For all of the fun people make of the TVG personalities at least Christina Olivares will get you some info you can use.

The simulcast feed doesn't need Rushton. They need you to whine and bitch about everything wrong with NYRA. Maybe give you a binky and a rattle. That would be entertainment at its finest.

They could work for Santa Claus for all I care. The point is they aren't very good, in a place that is supposed to be world class.

Must be a slow Monday.....John & Jan are the least of problems at NYRA now, the real problem is in Albany.

Combine that with a novice like grasp of racing and wagering and you get the mess that is her on a day to day basis. She should have been fired years ago.
...well there's also Mary Ryan

There's a lot bigger issues at NYRA right now than the employment of these two. Yeah, Imbriale can be a bit dull but he's generally accurate, and Jan, well... she tries hard.

Let's put it this way... Jan Rushton, or Ken Rudolph?

Ms Pacheco is very pretty but her on camera demeanor is sometimes a bit...flakey. She does know her stuff but sometimes she looks like she does espresso and Red Bull shooters between races.

Jan does know her stuff. She galloped for Shug for years. When she goes out and gets some info from trainers she offers some useful tidbits. Usually she does just read what anyone looking at the program already knows. Too bad. She has also allowed herself (maybe been involved) to become a bit of a "camp" figure. Not sure if thats good or bad.
Also, where Jan is concerned, the on-air person is only as good as the people behind the scenes. Last week, she has issues with the microphone one day and with the camera on another. There seems to be little co-ordination between the cameraman, Jan and the rest of the simulcast team when they are at Aqueduct. Sometimes Jan comes on at 10 mtp, other times 4 mtp. That sort of thing should be set in stone.

Obviously I'm not getting into the personalities discussion here but I did want to comment on this......I think it is a poor idea for racetracks to allow the broadcasting of " information " such as trainer's comments on their horses. There are several reasons for this. One is that only some will talk, and even if they tell the truth, what about the opinions of those that didn't talk? You are, at the very best, only offering a partial story. Plus, you are offering the opinions of people who may or may not have good judgement.

The second problem is much bigger....stories that turn out to be not true. There is, of course, the famous story of one trainer telling Jan that his first time starter couldn't run and would make a cute pony for his children. That horse went on to take serious action at the windows and win in a common gallop. There was also the firster at Saratoga a few summers ago who's trainer said had no speed and would probably need a race and ended up winning wire to wire by 15 lengths. Did these people lie to Jan or were they surprised? I'll let others decide.....but to me when you end up giving out horrendous information like this, and I'm not blaming Jan per se, it destroys all the credibility of this sort of " info. "

" Information " is a very slippery slope....and broadcasting it is even more dangerous.
