Default Crown Oaks

I watched the Melbourne Cup the other night and am new to Australian racing. I got a free PP from TVG and noticed numerous runners had run on 11/3/07. Same applies to tonight's Crown Oaks. Several of the ML favorites and selections ran on 11/3/07. Is this common over there?

I like #10 Arapoho Miss, just missed at a 1 1/4, out of Danehill Dancer and has been off since 10/20/07.

Not usually, most of the time horses get 2-3 weeks off between races.

But this is one of the richest weeks of the year in Australian racing, so it's a different story. The same thing happens in the UK, quite a few horses run twice in the Royal Ascot week.

It's a tough ask for the horses, but they usually get a very long break after this week - most don't race again until about February.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy in Pat Carey.

He was probably the best guy I met while I was down there.

Great character.

Default Thanks

Thanks to all for their responses. I thought Arapho Miss would like the extra furlong based on the progressively stretching her out. She sure looked great and I am glad the winning connections are good folks.

Just curious Ed if you know whether the horses that run on such short rest have much success in the Group Stake races in Australia and England?

Not sure about England, but the MacKinnon Stakes on the Saturday in Australia is known as the main prep for the Melbourne Cup on the Tuesday.

Not sure of the exact number, but a lot of horses have won both races in the same week - although it has been 8 years now since the last time it happened.
