Default Joe Hirsch Turf Classic

Why the move to Sunday this year? Hasn't it been on Saturday's in the past? Or maybe my memory is sh*t..

They heard your head would explode seeing Eng Chan and Typhoon on the same day.

I'm not crazy about the bigger races being moved to Sunday.

The field for this "Classic" really sucks. EC is not as good as he once was and out of 14 invitees, only 2 entered. They re-opened the race and got little of note.

I agree.....as of now ( and can't see things changing ) it looks like a horrifically bad race. Plus, there appears to be no pace whatsoever. English Channel isn't much but his competition, save Shamidan who looks like a victim of pace, may well be even worse.

It really stinks that the untelivised races will probably have much better and fuller fields than the Sunday line-up. Both the Beldame & JCGC are looking short too, no?

At least the Beldame is a good betting race with Ginger Punch the likely favorite. She's pretty hopeless in there.

All the dodging of big races, with an eye on the evil BC, has ruined high end racing. But that's old news.

King Glorious would like to know how you can say this without the PP's.

Has it ever. I remember when the summer was for older horses to run in handicaps to see who could carry weight and even run on turf and the fall series brought the 3 yos together with the olders to see who was best at any age. When I think about what's happened to the fall Belmont meet it truly saddens me.

ESPN shows College Football on Saturday. The only way those races could be televised was to move them to Sunday. I agree it's unfortunate but I guess it's better to have them televised nationally.

All the hating on EC.

Id love to own a horse that "isn't much" and has earned the $$ he has.

Hes not a Euro quality turf horse by anymeans...but his record here in America speaks for itself.

It's not " hating "....it's reality. His last race was decidely mediocre and none of his efforts this year have been particularly good. For him to be odds-on, given his 2007 form, in a supposed big race like this is a complete condemnation of the race.

You're a fan of his, that's great, and obviously we all wished we owned him, but the truth speaks for itself.

My man, you just went with my all-time least favorite defense for a horse, the 'I'd love to own one like him' card.

I think I've had that one thrown at me everytime I've gone on one of my crusades against wildly overrated horses.
