Default Irish Champion Stakes

Update, Racing Post.....

AUTHOR NOT TRAVELLING TO IRELAND

By Tom Peacock, PA Sport

Authorized's name appeared at the five-day stage for the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes but the Epsom Derby and Juddmonte International winner will not be travelling to Leopardstown this weekend.

An oversight at the Peter Chapple-Hyam office was to blame for the colt remaining among the 10 left in Ireland's premier Flat race, and Authorized remains on target for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe instead.

Chapple-Hyam said: "It was a mistake - I hold my hands up and I will not be declaring him. Authorized is fine, but he won't be running before the Arc."

Aidan O'Brien is left with his customary strong hand to choose from in an event he has lifted three times in the last four years.

The master of Ballydoyle has four possible runners, headed by last year's winner Dylan Thomas, who chased Authorized home in the Juddmonte at York last month.

He also has the sometimes brilliant George Washington plus Archipenko, Duke Of Marmalade and Red Rock Canyon.

Further lustre is added by the presence of the sole filly, Jim Bolger's dual Guineas heroine Finsceal Beo, not seen since disappointing in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, and Brian Meehan's Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks.

Top-notch performer Maraahel and the ex-O'Brien-trained Mullins Bay complete the line-up.

Maraahel could beat him blindfolded.

(Not saying he'll beat Dylan though... love them both).

DYLAN AND BEO ALL SET FOR CLASH

By PA Sport Staff

Multiple Group One winners Dylan Thomas and Finsceal Beo are set to clash in the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown this weekend.

It had been thought that Aidan O'Brien was likely to run last year's 2000 Guineas hero George Washington in the 10 furlong event.

However, it emerged yesterday that impressive King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Dylan Thomas will be the main challenger from the Ballydoyle stable.

"At the moment we'll probably run Dylan Thomas and Duke Of Marmalade," said O'Brien.

"George Washington is not certain to run as we have the option of the Prix du Moulin (at Longchamp) the following day for him.

"We'll see how things work out during the week, but at this stage it's also possible we'll run either Archipenko or Red Rock Canyon in the Champion," he told the Racing Post.

Finsceal Beo also has the option of the Matron Stakes on the same card but trainer Jim Bolger has confirmed that she will tackle older horses for the first time.

"It will be the Champion Stakes for Finsceal Beo, and while it will be her first run over 10 furlongs, I've no reservations about her getting that trip on Saturday," confirmed Bolger.

"She wants good ground and she should get that on Saturday. I'm very happy with her and Modeeroch, who is an intended runner in the Matron Stakes."

Actually, i think you're onto something there. Maraahel is a quirky boy, maybe he would run quicker with a blindfold on so he couldn't see where he was going

I am thrilled with Red Rock Canyon (half bro to Horatio). He was only in this race as a rabbit for Dylan, but he kept going to keep 3rd place. He was 100/1!!

Still a maiden after 11 starts, but he can finish 3rd in a Gr1.......
