I'm not sure if the Matriarch has always had grade one status, but if it has would not 7 wins by the same trainer in a grade one race be a record or approaching a record?

And Shug won only his FIRST Demoiselle (1.) according to John DaSilva, which surprised me...

I just checked and indeed it was his first Demoiselle win Steve.

He's a public figure. His utterances are available as universal fodder.

I thought the same thing. I know its a grade two now but i was wondering out loud the other day if there any Grade One's run in NY that he hasn't won.
Wish we had a list of the grade one's run here without having to think about it all night long.
I'd bet he's won almost all of them. I know he has all the big ones, many more than once.
Hes also won some races that have been downgraded but were grade ones at the time in which he won them.

Off the top of my head, I don't think he's ever won the Met Mile, and that's about as big a Grade 1 as there is in NY.

He got beat a nose with Seeking The Gold, and a head with Saarland, and has hit the board a whole bunch of times, but you are correct, no win.

He actually got beaten a couple of noses in the Seeking the Gold rendition, as Dancing Spree was also right in that photo with Proper Reality.
