Frank Rich: Who killed the 'Disneyland Dream'?
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/26/op...?ref=frankrich
Outstanding piece by Rich on Sunday. He uses the passing of an amateur filmaker, whose home movie of his family's 1956 trip to Disneyland was admitted to National Film Registry, as the backdrop for the flagging culture of American-style opportunity. Rich rarely misses a mark, and this is a fascinating, if disheartening, read. And the film, linked below, is remarkable. The 30 minute film itself.. Barstow Family's 'Disneyland Dream' |

Thanks for including a link to the film.
I've watched about 10 minutes so far... I love stuff like this... someones personal history in a time that is and isn't so long ago. Very cool. |
That was cool.

I went to Disneyland when I was 2 (1972) and dont remember much. My wife and I did find this very interesting, as I have been to Disneyworld about 15 times, my wife around 50 times.

"this was a difficult shot but i used a telephoto lens..."
classic. i'm not sure I quite get the author's connection between an eisenhower era home movie and the dream of class mobility but it wasn't the worst 30 minutes of my life. what i really don't get though is adult infatuation with disneyland. what is it that all about? |
