olympic judging

Admittedly I know very little about many of these "sports" but watching the ones that are judged it is like no one else knows either. There have been some awful calls and refs in boxing, so bad that it can be almost unwatchable since the points are seemingly given out randomly. Today they were showing some of the bad calls and it was almost comical how many mistakes are made. The FIBA refs in basketball are very inconsistent but they seem like they are bad on both sides of the ball. As for the gymnastics and diving, outside of the really bad ones they all pretty much look the same but the scores seem to be based upon reputation and country as much as anything.

The kid from Ireland that lost to the Chinese boxer was
an absolute joke. This boxing scoring system is a complete mystery.

The basketball... at least we knew how bad it could get.

The sports that require judges to score a performance
are impossible for me to care about who wins a medal.
I just watch for the athleticism, in the gymnastics anyway.

The ribbon flinging and hoop tossing... Bring on Chess instead.

shock.

the physics guy likes accurate measurement.

i'd have pegged you as one where the flawed opinion of an alleged expert would matter.

Bowling
Madden 09
MMA

Chuck, I totally agree the boxing score is laughable! To expect these judges to push a freakin button after every punch that lands, is an impossible assignment in my opinion! They need to throw out this stupid instant scoring system, and just judge this round by round, sure you wanna make each round's scoring known after each round fine, I got no problem with that. But they need to revamp this, and hopefully they will by 2012!

Yeah it sucks. Atlas said it best when he said i hope they are just incompetent, not corrupt. take the freakin head gear off, make it six, three minute rounds, have a qualifier the week or 2 before to get rid of the riff-raff and have it judged. Have each judge make notes each round explaining why they gave each round to the fighter. If a judge has consistently bad scores get rid of him before the medal rounds

Great idea! Problem is it may make too much sense for the IOC to ever consider giving it a try!

you left out jousting ....on horseback of course......

...and perhaps a version of those bike races on crack where points are awarded for picking off fallen competition....

ddthetide 08-23-2008 07:34 AM

ALL the judging sports should be banned from the olympics! boxing and gymnastics are 2 of the worst jokes for the longest time. oh and the x-game "sports" should be gone too.

ddthetide 08-23-2008 11:45 AM

this is the first i've watched any of the boxing. what a FREAKING JOKE!!
the IOC should make them clean this mess up or get rid of it period.

Fellers...let's admit it.

People have laughed at me because I always tell them cheating goes on through out the sporty world.

Whether it's players ,refs,judges,commissioners,owners....and what have you.

Even horseys cheat.

Cheating is an innate trait among the solids.

Liquids and gases have never been caught cheating.

Check that.

There are some gases here who I suspect cheat.
