i read somewhere that they were going to run spring waltz in a turf race in the following week or two, but that was a few days ago.

The Fleur de Lis is just as bad, if not worse. The older filly and mare division is ugly save a few.

Entered "as a precaution"... (?)

What does that mean?

It means he's a dick.

Nothing that man ever says is straight and true.

My guess is he'll run SW because he said they were going to run her elsewhere.

The older divisions are a horrible mess... a far cry from what once was..

It seems like just yesterday I was going to Belmont to see Heavenly Prize run against Sky Beauty in this race... Or Mossflower pulling off one of the most devistating performances ive ever seen in a Grade 1...

Those were the days...

Ginger Punch has a quarter crack and if she doesn't run than Spring Waltz will. If Ginger Punch runs, then Spring will run on the turf.
At least that is my understanding of the situation.

Sightseek 06-13-2008 12:39 PM

With all the company Ginger Punch will have up front, you'd think he would still keep Spring Waltz in. She and Golden Velvet are about the only other interesting horses in this race w/ GP.

Like Now? Has he even run since the 2006 Preakness?

He had surgery to remove a chip after the Preakness. Has really been off his form. He did have that huge move at Saratoga last summer but Mclaughlin has really had trouble figuring him out. Plus the owners are very INVOLVED and have pushed him into spots he didn't belong. New trainer and the owners are now agreeing to try him on the turf. He is decently bred for it and his style of running lends itself to the turf. But I am not sure he really wants to run anymore. He was one of my favorites before he won the Gotham and ran a very strong second to Showing-Up in the Lexington. The owners then wanted a joc change to Go Go who really had no confidence in the horse and rode him like that. He is worth a look because if he is on and the turf is firm, he could demolish this field. But the handicapper in me says his days are probably over in terms of stakes company.

Spring Waltz is supposed to go in the New York Handicap on the turf, which I believe is next week, and I fail to see what is wrong with Frankel entering her in this race in case during the time between entries and tomorrow morning something happens to Ginger Punch.

The whole division is pretty weak, but all things considered, this is an OK race. Zenyatta is in California, Lady Joanne is laid up, and unfortunately Lear's Princess doesn't seem to have maintained her form from last year. But, Moon Cathcer showed some real promise last year and could improve this year for Christophe Clement. Golden Velvet is coming off a huge win in the Sixty Sails. Cowgirls Don't Cry, who I don't think has much of a chance, did win the Shuvee impressively, and even Doug O'Neill ships Mistical Plan from California. Considering what is available, this is a good race. I'm not saying it's a great race but it's not as bad as some are suggesting.

I think Golden Velvet is a nice filly. She's no Zenyatta, but she can win the Phipps, esp. if Ginger Punch is not at her best.

He might not be good enough and the post isn't ideal, but Hollywood Left is going to run a big race. . .

I don't think anyone knows this officially, but Lady Joanne is retired and I believe has been bred.

I saw Christmas Kid's half-sibling is entered today, by chance, do you know where Christmas Kid is being pointed?
