Air commander

What a big goofey horse, these point givens are all the same. I think this guy ran sneaky good today and could be one to watch in the santa anita derby, even after today im still not that high on cobalt blue, i kinda think air commander will be better down the road, cobalt blue had things his own way today and ran well, but i think air commander will be over looked and i think this guy has a future.

Point of Impact 2: Electric Boogaloo

POINTGIVEN1985 03-17-2007 07:01 PM

Baffert did say this one's the most like his sire of any of them. Maybe he'll take the seasoning a little more seriously this time. I still think PG's Derby got screwed up because Bob got cocky about what he had.

Coach Pants 03-17-2007 07:05 PM

Ever since Baffert married that smokin' hot blonde from Louisville it's been all downhill for his horses. :D

Point Given was a massive three year old who generally made the horses that he ran against look like something that he excreted after a good meal. To paraphrase Sen. Bentsen: I knew Point Given. Point Given was a friend of mine. Air Commander, you're no Point Given.

Agree wholeheartedly. Bob, wanted the triple crown bad, and wanted a horse left for the Belmont after previously coming up short, so he undertrained him for the Derby. PG should have won the crown, imho. What a specimen he was ontrack. ;)

I got this race wrong. I underestimated Cobalt Blue, and overestimated Air Commander. Cobalt Blue did have things pretty much his own way on the front end, but I was still pretty impressed with his race today.
Anyone know what the time was for the last furlong?

I don't think it was undertraining, but rather Stevens running the horse too close to a torrid pace. Also, you cannot take anything away from the race Monarchos ran..a sub 2 minute Derby and an over the top performance from which he never recovered.

Im looking at just under 13 seconds. 12.82 my own timing method.

I did the same thing mira. You aren't the only one. I was worried about CB having his way on the front end, but did I listen to that worrry? NOPE!

i understand, but he was such a great horse i guess i just expect more.... also i really do like this guy air commander, i think he could at clunk up and get a peice if he makes it to the derby, and he obviously hasent peaked yet maybe baffert can have him so he peaks on derby day, possibly another solid run in the santa anita derby, and then a big price, in the kentucky derby, where i think he could run good.

I think we made the exact same picks in the contest this week though. One first and two seconds out of 3 races.....not bad.

I was happy. I actually handicapped the races during my lunch hour on Friday. I actually do better when I spend more than five minutes handicapping the races.

I went back and forth with SS and AGS too. I went with AGS because I figured he knew the track. SS impressed me today. AGS I want to see win big outside of Tampa, but he is on my "I WANT SO BAD TO BE IMPRESSED WITH" list.

I agree with your first sentence, but disagree with your second one. He didn't do anythig wrong but I don't think he exactly did anything right. Seems like a one-speed plodder to me. Now that doesn't mean he can't be a fairly effective one-speed plodder, but I cetainly don't like his chances against Ravel in the Santa Anita, or Circular Quay in the Wood, or whatever his next start will be.

Youwouldthink Air Commander has had enough to show someting. All he has shown is he needs softer. He had the dream trip sitting behind Blue but he didnt have enough to close or even threaten. Take AC of the Derby Trail. As much as I kike Blue he needs to beat some better ones, some that are contenders and not just wannabees.Anyone that was impressed with Air Commander today are just wishing.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-17-2007 10:00 PM

cobalt blue had everything his own way he just galloped around the track air commander came to him late and then cobalt blue had something left, which he should have, i think air commander has a future, i could be wrong but we will see, i expect him to improve alot in his next start, and i think baffert will have him ready to take a step forward
