Went The Day Wrong
Hopefully the "dirt experiment" is over.....Possibly another example of turfers liking the Churchill Downs dirt.
Unless he got hurt, he never lifted a hoof |

WTDW will do much better on the grass at Saratoga? Well, he'd better run on something where these 2 ain't cuz that plan's not working out too well, and grass would be good....but he'd better up his game there too, cuz there are TONS of 3yo grassers out there licking their chops |

Creative Cause is a nice horse but was soundly defeated by the top two and not in their tier. I guess your avatar represents the Monday morning quarterback you have been after the race was run today. |
Can somebody tell me about this "good race" he ran in the Derby? I've watched it several times and all I see is a well beaten clunk up 4th after a very fast pace.

I think some Americans just bow down to foreigners. Clambaked is one of them.

I'm wondering if the shipping back and forth contributed to Creative Cause sliding back a bit, he was right there with these horses his last two, that ship back and forth was so unnecessary.

Believe Bode stayed at Churchill and shipped up from Louisville.

I didn't like Creative Cause shipping back to Cali, but it obviously didn't bother him him at all.

Most people who own horses don't consider going from 5th to 3rd 'sliding back" when you are running in similar company.
CC went back to Cali while Bode went straight to Baltimore. |
I think Creative Cause is just a cut below. No shame in that.
|
I thought I noticed quite a bit of sweating on WTDW right before he was loaded in the gate. I had him boxed with IHA and knew it was over for that exacta.
|
I still think Union Rags should have run in the Preakness and Went the Day Well should have gone in the Belmont instead, but what do I know?

Except he got beat by 9, considering how close he has been to these two prior, I would consider that sliding back. I also stated the ship may have been the reason, I know Bode and IHA stayed put, hence the reason for my post to begin with. |
Agreed Laharge but once a horse is clearly not going to contend with the top two there is no reason to ride him hard to be closer to them. He had 3rd locked up so there was no reason for him to be ridden hard late, though if he had, he might have been closer.
Two weeks rest, plus two long flights could have caused a regression. I think CC might be better than what he showed on Sat. relative to the top pair. |

I never got the fascination with Ice Box either.

I met you on the old DRF message board....so maybe you're right. By the way, I had a nice chat with your idol Saturday night. You never came up. |

You can still get to the old drf message board, can't post but last I checked you could read the hilarity. |

While watching WTDW's action down the backside, it was clear he wasn't handling the surface. I expect him to bounce back and contend later in the summer in the big races.
On the flip side, Creative Cause moved great over the surface. I think the two flights took the starch out of his finish. I was worried about that, but still included him, which now seems wasteful. Had he stayed at Churchill or moved to Pimlico early, he probably would have been a more respectable four or five lengths back at the end. |
