Travers

Some Travers questions for anyone who will indulge?

1. Do you know what time is post?

2. I am also looking for the race number of Desert Key because I plan to bet that race too. Also what time is that post and his odds?

3. I think there could be some money to be won on Tale of Akati today. I plan to bet him across the board. Anyone else agree (20-1 in a wide open field)?

4. I am also going to put a little down on Col John to Win.

5. My big struggle today is I like both Desert Key and Tale of Akati. I think they are both in post position 1. I'm not sure if that is a bad thing? After watching Big Brown in that post at The Belmont, I have some concerns. Any advice?

6. Do you think both Zito horses, DaTara and Cool Coal Man will sprint to the lead early?

7. I know the race is on ESPN. Do you know who the track announcer will be?

Thanks all.

Post is 5:45 EDT.

I wouldn't tout off of too many horses in that field.

Exotics should pay well, if one is so inclined.

Da'Tara will go to the lead, but Cool Coal Man is a dead closer. He'll be back in the back early. I actually like CCM in here today and I think he's the price horse instead of Tale of Ekati.

Desert Key's the #2 in the 10th (5:10 post)... post 1, but program #2

Col John's a good horse, but is a synthetic specialist.... don't care for him on dirt.

Not on top, but he's obviously dangerous. Just think he's better suited to six furlongs than seven.

I just double checked and it said Desert Key is in post #1?

If I remember the Derby correctly, I thought CCM broke early to the lead?

Quick Pick 4 wagering question. This one I know is simple to most everyday players, but I've just never been a Pick 4 or Pick 6 guy.

Today's late Pick 4 at Saratoga looks to be an exception.

If I have a single in the first race, two horses in the second leg, five horses in the third leg, and 7 horses in the final leg....

.....is that a $70 wager?

1x2x5x7=$70 you are correct

Thanks, jwkniska.

I usually can go research those questions, but that answer wasn't easily coming up in my google searches.

I was just responding to the painfully inaccurate statement that Cool Coal Man is a deep closer. . .

Do you know if the post #1 is considered a bad one. I like two horses positioned there today but not sure if that is wise?

hockey2315 08-23-2008 12:28 PM

The post won't really be a factor for Tale of Ekati. . . may be a bit of a detriment to Desert Key if he's one of the ones you like.

Cool thanks!

AeWingnut 08-23-2008 12:39 PM

after watching a few races I really don't see the rail having any advantage. I was hoping that Tale of Ekati would have a post position advantage...

I thought he was very well placed in the Ky Derby and had no excuses (for place or show money) I think he should have finished better than 4th with that ride. Don't believe that Edgar is the answer because Coa was not a problem. I will be betting ToE, just not as heavy.

also hope Court Vision finishes ahead of Pyro. Don't like Pyro.

Does anyone like Golden Spikes or Visionaire in the King Bishop?

I kind of like Visionaire.

I don't know why. I think ToE has a huge race still left in him. While he's got some odds, I am going to grab it.

I like Golden Spikes better than Viaionaire, but like the entry better.

ArlJim78 08-23-2008 02:14 PM

only one winner this year came from outside of post six in dirt routes at Saratoga. only a 30 race sample though. strange, the 1 post has won 9 of the races.

AeWingnut 08-23-2008 04:41 PM

Tale of Ekati is bet down to 8-1. no where near the 20-1. I knew he wouldn't be 20-1 but was hoping for at least 12-1. Heavy sigh. Guess Court Vision will be my substitute.

ninetoone 08-23-2008 04:43 PM

Da Tara shouldn't be 12-1 w/the kind of day Garcia is having.

Closers have been winning all day. I think there is too much speed in the race for Da'Tara to cross the finish line in the top 3.

1. Pyro
2. Tale Of Ekati
3. Harlem Rocker

expletive me. I have Mambo in Seattle with Court Vision and Colonel John with Court Vision but I do not have Mambo in Seattle and Colonel John

so stupid:mad:

seems fine to me; clearly your KEY was Court Vision; and you played it correctly.

IrishofNDMan 08-23-2008 05:01 PM

Hank continues to amaze me with every stupid comment he makes. Did he just say that Colonal John winning the Travers might have team Curlin a little worried?? HAHA

Betsy 08-23-2008 05:02 PM

what a rough race - CCM gave me a thrill for awhile, then it looked like he got squeezed badly. I thought Mambo had won initially, but then I thought CJ. Wow - the margin was maybe a centimeter. What a race!

yeah, go with the Colonial Downs horse. good move. That's what I mean when I am stupid. Take horse that is at a price and put him with the horses that make sense.

that's funny. Why would Curlin be worried? shouldn't Big Brown be worried ?

While Hank has undoubtably hit us with some stupid salvos, I think you missed his point here ... The suggestion was---upon Colonel John's win---that the horse's connections ran what some have branded as a synthetic horse on dirt and won ...

Fat Hank was implying that Curlin's owner's sportingly try Curlin on synthetics---get it ???
