The Dead (Heat) Pool

I need some help with a phrase in Steve newest column what is a:
Byzantine Gondorfing

Danzig 12-09-2007 01:21 PM

well...i'm guessing that it has something to do with a guy names gondorf, who got in trouble for swindling.
byzantine perhaps referring to an old style of something?

old fashioned swindling perhaps???

BillW 12-09-2007 01:25 PM

Sounds like a form of medieval torture. Ouch

Riot 12-09-2007 04:37 PM

Front Page past post editorial

"Byzantine gondorfing" ??

Steve, you rampallion! :D

Kasept 12-09-2007 08:13 PM

Surprised the 'Gondorf' reference is proving itself obscure... Zig is in the ballpark though.

Not familiar with Tolkien, but is Gondorf from Lord of the Rings? The Byzantine reference has me completely baffled

Cannon Shell 12-09-2007 08:24 PM

Bob Gondolfo ?

Kasept 12-09-2007 08:25 PM

Henry Gondorff and Johnny Hooker

proof that if you are too esoteric your audience may have trouble relating to what you write...and your points (however valid) get lost.

blackthroatedwind 12-09-2007 08:41 PM

I'll take Steve's side on this. If people here don't get that reference, they should look it up, and see the movie IMMEDIATELY. It's one of the great treats in life.

Come on.

blackthroatedwind 12-09-2007 08:52 PM

You probably never saw " The Hustler " either.

You need to get out more.

paisjpq 12-09-2007 08:52 PM

regardless of whether or not I should know a movie that was released before I was born....I stand by what I said earlier.

blackthroatedwind 12-09-2007 08:54 PM

Thankfully I've seen a great many movies that came out before I was born.

paisjpq 12-09-2007 08:56 PM

No I haven't.....I am out too much which is why I don't watch old school movies that were created before I was a thought

docicu3 12-09-2007 09:00 PM

Actually the horse race in "The Sting" is incredibly on target this week with the Whale's acusations......Past posting at it's absolute best!!!

blackthroatedwind 12-09-2007 09:02 PM

OK, Scavs, but trust me on this....watch " The Sting " and then watch " The Hustler. " There is less than no chance you won't love them both.

The pool games between Newman and Jackie Gleason in " The Hustler " are beyond great....as is the whole movie.

Isn't the Color of Money written as a sequel to The Hustler?

SentToStud 12-09-2007 09:08 PM

Hello Eddie's girl.

Yes.....and while it's entertaining, it absolutely sucks compared to " The Hustler."

ArlJim78 12-09-2007 09:20 PM

great movie, anyone on this board should see it.

afterwards you'll be whistling the theme song for days.

SentToStud 12-09-2007 09:31 PM

Scav, put away the x-box for a day and see The Hustler, The Cincinnati Kid and The Gambler. You'll be glad you did.

Kasept 12-09-2007 09:34 PM

Well.. good to see the cat got out of the bag on this!

Speaking of which.. and film references: "Cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river..."

A line from another film I urge everyone here to add to their list with 'Sting' and 'Hustler'..

Here's another hint: "Relax pal.. that horseradish won't jump a fence.."

hoovesupsideyourhead 12-09-2007 10:09 PM

"let it ride" also ...might have seen that one..

herkhorse 12-09-2007 10:14 PM

Burt Lancaster?

robfla 12-09-2007 10:36 PM
