amazing that the Flyers are in this game

MaTH716 06-09-2010 10:23 PM

What a tremdous game! Congrats to the Hawks fans, they were the best team. But, the Flyers gave them a hell of a fight.

arizonadave 06-09-2010 10:23 PM

Not a fan, but good to see Chicago win. 1961 was a long time ago.

Kane is acting like a complete ******* in these interviews

Bobby Hull just called himself an old cooter also.

Now you can die in peace.. no wait, we used that in 1994.

That was one crazy angle on that last goal, and comedy that no one realized it went in.

it was terrible that Leighton let that in. Wasnt that hard to stop. Oh well! Congrats Hawks fans.. enjoy it!

slotdirt 06-10-2010 08:17 AM

Was that not just the most bizarre ending to a Stanley Cup Finals anybody has ever seen? Don't they have auto-sensors on the goal lines these days to light the lamp?

Congrats. The Hawks when on were completely amazing and played on a different level than the flyers. It was amazing that the flyers made it as far as they did. Goal tending didn't help them in the finals. Enjoy it! I couldn't believe JR was crying at the end of the broadcast. Just shows you how hard and how much players want to win the cup. It has been a long time coming for Hawks fans and lots of rough years.

The amount of pucks Niemi kicked out on rebounds was horrible. It usually takes outstanding goal tending to win the cup. That didn't exist on either side. Toews was outstanding on faceoffs. I don't know if he ever lost one.

I thought Niemmi was the difference last night. He made every save that he needed to. As opposed to Leighton, who let in 2 bad goals, including the winner.
Not sure going forward, because I really haven't watched the Hawks enough to make a fair assessment on him. But it almost seems like the Hawks are one of those teams who are going to outgun you every game and score at least 4 goals, taking some pressure of the goaltending. He was up to the challange last night. But, it's tough to knock the guy after they won cup.

How good the Hawks were on faceoffs is a great point, they were absolutely dominant.

I think I heard last night he won 16 out of 25, but the hardcore hockey news guy brought up the same point

AWFUL goals, both by sharp and the anticlimactic winner by kane were pucks that should have been routine stops. Like i kept saying, leighton was playing on borrowed times anyways, they win the cup and he's the franchise 'tender for the flyers for years to come, instead he lets in those softies, he's gonna be on the waiver wire and up and down from A to the N all year long next season.

now is when the real fun begins, getting all those guys back under the cap for next season, especially when you have to justifiy contracts like huet and campbell, in which no other team will take on.

congrats hawks fans

I'll say this about Leighton..and the two goals were very soft..but it could have been 5-1 Hawks after the 1st if he wasn't playing really well. The thing is you knew that at some point he would let one or two in. Niemi flat out won Game 2 for the Hawks and was the MVP through the San Jose series. As a rookie who wasn't even supposed to make the team, his job was to not lose any series for the Hawks...and he didn't. Plus he stole a few along the way. The only goalie he faced who might have out played him was Pecca Rinne from Nashvile but he flat out smoked Luonga and Kiprusoff after that.

My Hawks' bias aside, that was as entertaining a Cup final as I've seen in years. Two of the most passionate fan bases in the NHL and just monstrous hitting, great skating and tight games. And the end of series handshakes has to be one of the coolest traditions in any sport. :tro:

Beautiful day in Chicago and a HUGE!!! turnout for the parade. Wouldn't be suprised if the players get off the buses to greet the sea of red.

Patrick333 06-11-2010 11:43 AM

Great series. Congratulations to the Blackhawks. The Flyers gave them all they could but they just weren't good enough. Hopefully the Flyers will be back in the finals next year.

Scav 06-11-2010 12:13 PM

Only Chicago politicians could get boo'ed at a champions parade!!! :)

dellinger63 06-11-2010 01:00 PM

What a fantastic rally. Hats off to the organIzation and all who put it together. Highlight IMO was Kane telling all cab driver's "I love you". That was a lot of fun to watch.

Suntimes is reporting the City estimates a crowd of 2 MILLION. Unbelievable!

Bowman said he wasn't sure if former general manager Dale Tallon, who shaped the team with his trades, draft picks and free agent signings, would get his name on the Stanley Cup or receive a ring from the team. Tallon, demoted last summer, is now the GM of the Florida Panthers after nearly four decades with the Blackhawks in a variety of roles.
pretty bad if the guy who formed the team can't even get his name on the cup. As far as im concerned its Dennis Savard's cup as much as it is quenneville's :)

might be the final piece of the puzzle right there. can't afford a goalie who is peaking, instead can only afford a vet who has 1 foot into retirement..... this team might not make the playoffs this season

Well..to be fair...he did screw up the offer letters last year and is a big part of the reason they lost Versteeg and one other ( can't remember). I guess I would give him a ring, but with limitations on how many names can go on the Cup, would think he's pretty far down the list.
