I'll write it again because perhaps you missed it the first time ...

... I really don't know why Giacomo can't be competitive in G1 races any more ...

... if I did ... believe me ... I'd definitely tell you.

Not every G2 race attracts a G2 field ... as the San Diego Handicap clearly demonstrated. But sometimes an overnight allowance race will draw a G1 field.

To knowledgable observers of thoroughbred racing ... it's the quality of the actual opposition a horse defeats that's important ... not the grading a stakes race got based on the horses which ran in it in past years.

I hope you can see the distinction ... and appreciate it.

Yeah, blah, blah, blah ...the Grade 1 he won was "weak," and now the Grade 2 he won is "weak." Just a bunch bunch of maggots, and piranha that attack derby winners.

I think you have me confused with someone else ...

... I never said the G1 race Giacomo won ... the 2005 Kentucky Derby ... was weak.

If you have evidence to the contrary ... please produce it. Thanks.

I like the contrast between the title of this thread and the content.

Gee, Hoss ... all I did was congratulate Giacomo ... and comment that his race wasn't overly impressive.

How does that lead you to conclude that my life is bad?

Please don't be so downcast about me ... I have a wonderful life ... I couldn't possibly be happier ... in fact I'm happier than any human being really ought to be.

But thanks anyway for your concern.

But that's where you're drawing an incorrect conclusion ...

... when someone who has observed thoroughbred racing for 48 years watches a race and concludes that the winner wasn't impressive ... he's not "being negative" ... he's just putting his accumulated knowledge to work and drawing an intelligent conclusion.

Do you expect every experienced analyst to conclude that every horse who wins a race won it impressively?

You really don't expect that ... do you?

I just don't see the point of bashing everything. Read your posts, you bait people into arguements for no reason at all. Then when you get your wish you act like why are you argueing, I was just giving my opinion. Then you twist words, and NEVER let anything die. Is that fun?

All I'm hoping to do is help less experienced members of this forum to understand how to analyze thoroughbred races ... and how to organize their thoughts into cogent and well-written conclusions ... and how to justify those conclusions when they're challenged.

That's not such a bad thing ... is it?

Glad you found your dictionary, Scuds. Maybe you can look up "adolescent", too.

You declared "thread done", and then get goaded into continuing with more silly stuff. Too bad.

Won't you take me down to negativetown?
I guess some people just thrive on bashing horses. I realize it wasn't a grade one race but wasn't it just nice to see a horse who won the Derby and was being ridiculed win a race in such a game fashion?
Why can't people ever just celebrate a nice performance or story? Why does it always lead to "well he or she sure won't win next time or sure can't beat so and so"? Hes sure never been my favorite horse and I sure didn't like him to win on Saturday, but after he hit the line in front I told the person with me "I can't believe he just won of that layoff, I guess hes gamer than I gave him credit for". I think thats a pretty appropiate way to think.

irishtrekker 07-24-2006 07:20 AM

When Oracle tells people to be less critical, you better listen. ;) In lieu of Buffy, I am going to admonish everone with her trademark: BE NICE!

Seriously, though, I completely agree with Mike. It's great to see Giacomo win. The horse takes so much crap, and I think we should all just be able to enjoy his win without any but's, if's, or however's.

Can we say "perhaps" "maybe" and "nonetheless"?
