The Flyers looked really good yesterday. But as they proved against Boston, it takes 4 wins, not three.

herkhorse 05-23-2010 05:05 PM

Nice Bob, Good Luck!!

pgiaco 05-23-2010 05:54 PM

Congrats to the Hawks (and Bob). Best uniforms in all of sports (sorry Yankees), best "goal song" and a pretty damn good 1-2 punch in Kane and Toews. I think they own all the matchups no matter who comes out of the East.

Roof left the building today....Great afternoon once they actually started skating. I hope Philly wraps it tomorrow because a lay off will not help the roll they are on.

pretty sure keith solidified his chances at winning the norris trophy after taking that puck off the teeth and finishing the game yesterday, amazing how that franchise turned it around so fast in the last 4 years or so

can we really say the sharks "choked" again this year?

It won't matter how much time they take off. The Blackhawks are much deeper talent-wise and much faster than either Montreal or Philadelphia. If the Hawks come out slow for a period or two after a layoff, big deal. It'll just make the third period comeback that much sweeter. Besides, the layoff could give Duncan Keith a chance to grow seven new teeth.

P.S. Where were you sitting yesterday? I thought you were coming up for beers between periods.

I think Philly wins that series eventually and I think it's in the Hawks best interest to start playing Thursday instead of Sunday or later. 7+ day layoffs before a Stanley Cup final are not what they need. San Jose was a tough series, but they still have played only one game more than the max the last two rounds and except for Vancouver, have not been in a real physical series.

Antitrust32 05-24-2010 02:40 PM

I dont watch any hockey.. but I watched the Flyers game on Saturday and that Pronger guy is a monster. best player on the court. He's very physical it seems also.

The hawks are deeper and faster, but I don't think they have had as physical a series as philly would give them

Would you suit up Carcillo to knock some heads around or do you go skill with his roster spot and just have Asham show the Hawks that we mean business? This is, of course, contingent on putting the Canadiens away.

Two of my brother Danny's best friends are featured in the 'Fans ready for Flyers to advance' video. The two knuckleheads talking about Leighton towards the end. DIEHARDS. Diviny is THE nicest kid you ever want to meet. (mentions Leighton deserving a new contract)

The Hawks can play a physical game with anyone. They have enough size to mix it up if need be. Quennville detests penalties so they rarely go this type of game unless it starts to get chippy. In that case, Byfueglin, Eiger, Brouwer, Burish, Seabrook, et al. will protect the littler guys. Also, if need be, the Hawks have at least one banger for each of the four lines, and don't risk giving up speed or offense going to a more physical style. Other teams like St. Louis, Vancouver, Columbus and Nashville have all tried to muscle them this year to no avail. Eiger led the NHL in penalties with Philly and left to his own devices, he probably would again. No doubt, Byflueglin would love a punchout every night if he could get away with it.

There have only been two fights in the NHL playoffs this year. The refs have been ridiculous this playoff season with the close calls. If Philadelphia gets short-handed early on, then has to chase the Hawks' speed for a couple periods, they'll be dragging ass and will get crucified by the third period.

"Best player on the court"........?????????????

Hope they don't get too many runs against the best team on the ice.

I guess we should just hand the cup to the hawks. Flyers still need to win 1 more to get to the Party, hopefully that happens tonight!

It should be a great series. Hopefully the Flyers will come out on top.

My guess, Flyers in six.

The flyers fans are really going to be pissed. They watched the Flyers lose game one while Roy Halladay went out and threw a perfect game.

Yeah baby....Much thx to a DT member who tossed me a ticket and HEY..REFS...YOu still can't get your Flyers a victory

This is the Stanley Cup. There was only 4 penalties called all game. Good aggressive hockey is what the Cup is all about. A 6-5 victory in your building. You have to admit you are a little shocked with the skill that the flyers possess, if they didnt blow coverage twice, this game could have easily been 5-4 flyers. Now the question is who is in net in game 2 for the flyers? IF the flyers can get one win in Chicago that would be huge. Let's Go Flyers!

Patrick333 05-30-2010 08:53 AM

A defensive struggle it wasn't. Hopefully the Flyers can bounce back Monday.

pgiaco 05-30-2010 03:41 PM

I'm afraid that may be as close as the Flyers get this series. If Leighton can't stop anything smaller than a bus they are in a world of trouble. Plus don't expect the Hawks to give the puck away all night and sleepwalk through the next 3 games like they did in game one.

golfer 05-31-2010 05:13 AM

I don't know much about this kid Hjalmarrson, but they need to play him less. He seemed to be on the ice every time something bad was happening to the Black Hawks.

Patrick333 05-31-2010 08:20 AM

Big game tonight. IMHO game is the momentum builder for this series. It looks like Leighton will be between the pipes tonight. Hopefully he'll be back on his game.

Not sure if Bob's referee reference is even worthy of a response, so I won't touch that.

Looking forward to tonight's game to see how the Orange and Black bounce back. They tend to turn in strong performance's for Laviolette the game after they $hit the bed. They need to apply the same pressure they did for the first 55 minutes, and figure out a way to limit the defensive mistakes and goaltending mishaps. Boucher's horrible angle of that last Mickey Mouse goal was upsetting, but at least we know we can skate with them. Those that have already handed the Cup over to the Blackhawks (every analyst and pole-jumper outside of this city) could be in for a BIG surprise in the next few weeks.

Thank you to those before us that were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice so that this country can enjoy all of life's liberties and freedoms!!!!

oh, and Barry Melrose, ESPN's yuckmouth and modern day foppish dandy, subsists on a strict diet of Canadien Whiskey and birthday wishes of orphans. Known also as "Master of the Dark Arts", he has his own line of denim condoms that he oversees. He, too, is somehow tied in with the BP Global Solutions disgrace. That said, I think it's time to shave that neck blanket of his and beg the TB Lightning to take him back for another 3 week stint as the shot-caller.

Well...Leighton and the Flyers showed up, that's for sure. No disrespect meant, but I really just think it's the Hawk's year....and I can't believe I am actually saying that. If they can win two games without a point from the Toews and Kane, then they really are on a roll.

Good old fashioned hockey and "physicality" last night...Sure it will be ramped up a few more notches tomorrow night too.

Patrick333 06-01-2010 08:42 AM

Good to see a real hockey game last night wasn't it? I'm not counting the Flyer's out yet.

The funny thing is, that my dad (who forgot more about sports than I'll ever know) thinks that the Flyers haven't been outplayed at all this series! I told him that he needs to learn how to watch a hockey game, because that obviously isn't his strong suit.

Even in a 2 game hole, this city will be electric come tomorrow night. For obvious reasons, this game is make or break. If, and that's a BIG if, we can pull out game 3, it's up in the air. We simply need to be play perfect in order to stand a chance.

I'm happy for you Bob, if the Hawks continue on. Either way, it was a great run. The winner will surely have earned it.

Your Dad may not be wrong...certainly in Game 2 the Flyers weren't out played and in 3 of the 4 Sharks game you could make a case that they weren't out played either by the Hawks. But they just keep finding ways to win.

It doesnt matter how you win most of the time, as long a team has one more goal than thier oppenent that is what counts the most. Bob your Hawks are playing some kick @ss hockey and should be commended on it.

dellinger63 06-02-2010 03:17 PM

To be honest I'd rather have Philly win one there and win the Cup at home.

Also much credit needs to be given to Peter Wirtz who in a second put the Hawks back on regular TV after taking over and 2yrs and months later needs to win 2 out of 4 for a Stanley Cup, the first one in almost 50 years! Do wish his father was still here to see his son do it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzHqNVgMkCg

wiphan 06-02-2010 03:54 PM

Am I the only one that thinks Philly still has a very good chance to win this thing? The Hawks have found a way to win both games by 1 goal and were barely hanging on in the third period in game 2. Philly was down 3 games and beat Boston. If they can win the next 2 at home I think they have a good shot to still win this. The Hawks are a great team and have done nothing wrong to this point and it would not surprise me if they take the cup, but I am not counting the flyers out yet. The Wachovia/Wells Fargo Center will be rocking and if the Hawks get down early they will find a different environment than at home in Chi town.
