I swear I liked her before I saw she was trained by Jerkens. I actually was a big fan of Sir Greeley and Corinthian for almost a year before I realized they were both trained by him.

Panty Raid's Turfway race was reasonably fast. Not that I think she's much either...but she's ahead of Fee Fi Fo Fum.

Hey, I'm happy about this discussion, as I am now WAY more interested in the Comely.

Me too but now I REALLY wish it was at a mile and an eighth around two turns.

One thing I agree with you about is that overall, except the dreaded Rags to Riches ( and the supposedly amazing Magnificence ), there are not a lot of killer 3YO fillies out there but a reasonable amount of decent ones. Hopefully this will bode well for the 3YO races coming up. They haven't been that exciting the last few years ( save the Acorn two years ago ).

The fact that Bravo takes the reigns again seems to support your point. I was somewhat surprised that he did get the call back to ride. That said, my view of the race was that in steadying along down inside (and I thought it more than mild) she never looked comfortable nor able to hit her best stride. She may be the type that does her best running outside horses; tomorrow should present her with a chance to do that.

Maybe, though she didn't pick it up that strongly when wheeled out in the lane. However, it's easily possible she wasn't comfortable inside.

I always try, but to no avail. I "seem" to find a spot in which he is vulnerable.(large fields, bad posts) Works out rarely in my favor. His horses seem to find another gear coming down the backstretch, as the others hit plywood. Is this due more to the quality of his stock or his tinkering with them??

The real root of his problem as you see BTW, is the presence of Mr. Greeley and/or Buckpasser...he loses his mind. ;)

For whomever may be interested, the Comely is the Thorograph Race of the Week. Going by the numbers, there are a few things that stand out, the biggest of which is that Fee Fi Fo Fum, while very eligible to improve, is the slowest horse in the field coming into this. At 7-2 ML, she's one to take a stand against. Boca Grande, who is also likely to improve 2nd off the layoff, comes in no faster than many, and is giving weight, therefore should be an underlay. Pletcher's Perfect Forest is solid, and in light, is the most likely horse to run well (win? maybe!). I, like Andy, would lean against the Maryland shipper and the Contessa trio (although out of the 3, Officer in Pursuit seems to have the biggest upside). This leaves us with 2 interesting horses, both coming off poor races. Desire to Excel, the fastest horse at 2, comes off a poor showing 1st off layoff and 1st stretchout at Tampa. If you can forgive that effort, this could be the horse. Finally you have Pat Reynolds' Lost Etiquette, only 3 lifetime starts, 2 of which have been very competitive with this field. Only problem is her most recent was the worst, why? Short rest? Again, if you can forgive that effort, this one is dangerous.
Bottom line: Pletcher's Perfect Forest is the horse with the least strikes against, although not a major standout, Desire to Excel and Lost Etiquette are both dangerous.

Nice, thanks for the Thorograph view.

Sightseek, that's my review using the Thorograph numbers... They are far more positive about the Maryland shipper, Winning Point than I am.

Getting some good odds so far on the other two...

SniperSB23 04-14-2007 03:14 PM

Wound up boxing 3,7,8 in the exacta and tri. Wussed out on singling FFFF on top at 3/1, just not enough value at less than her optimal distance, around one turn, on a track that may be kind to speed.

im betting boca grande to win, good luck everyone.

Winning Point gets a class hike, but there aren't any monsters in here and I think she can run big.

SniperSB23 04-14-2007 03:23 PM

Nice call on Boca Grande BTW, FFFF was strung wide but stunk the place up.

I didn't like the winner any more than a few horses. I have no idea why Fee Fi Fo Fum was 3-1. We probably will see her on the grass from now on.
