Going out there in itself was taking on a challenge.

Bayakoa was not the better horse.

Bayakoa had her collered and was going by, that day she was better.

anyone calling zenyatta less than the best older mare in the country has a screw loose, just like anyone belittling rachel. they're both good, knocking one doesn't make the other better.
as for if they met on dirt, i think rachel would win-she's more tractable, and isn't a one run type horse. sooner or later, that may jump up and bite zenyatta, just like it almost did the other day. but that doesn't mean zenyatta isn't better-if she got the right trip, could she catch and pass rachel? who knows? um, nobody, that's who.

Yea but it makes a horse racing fan feel better that their sport cant even create a championship matchup.

Shouldnt the best older mare in the country be racing in the best races? We have 30k claiming horses going to Cali and winning grade 1 races. We also have monster 3yr olds prepping for the Kentucky derby out in Cali and when they come to Churchill and people are touting them as next triple crown winners, they end up looking like below average horses.

Isnt she running in grade 1 races? Your issue again seems to be with the sport, maybe those races should be downgraded, but one of the reasons they are given grade 1 status is to guide people in selecting the races that should be for the highest talent.

Ive thought about that before and am still questioning how California is still maintaining G1 status on some of their races. Its a joke.

For the very reason your argument holds no weight, Zenyatta ships to Oaklawn and wins, then wins the Breeders Cup. Azeri wins at Oaklawn 3 years running, wins the BC. This is not smoke and mirrors, these horses that win the Milady, Vanity, Clement Hirsch, Ladys Secret can ****ing run whether its at saratoga or not.

Yeah, two years in a row they've run second in the Derby. That's what below average looks like.

Yea but these things are monsters in their prep races out west and I wouldn't call POTN's second place finish this year ultra impressive

They aren't close to monsters out here. Not close. And the point is not whether or not POTN's or CJ's second place finishes were impressive or not. The point is that even though they are running what you call below average, they are still beating just about everything else, including all of your precious Eastern horses.

Forgive my mistake. Two out of three years.

Or damn, I'll just stop now. Why the hell was I thinking that Colonel John ran second?

her owners live in california, the trainer is based there-i'm sure there are many who think california racing is top notch. i'm not going to argue the point. yes, a top cali horse was touted by some as being a future t.c. winner. but lots of horses get hype each spring, regardless of where they run. a poly horse might end up looking average on dirt, or he may come east and win the travers like col. john did.

my point is, zenyatta is a top notch horse and has run on more than one surface, and on more than one track, and remains perfect.
rachel has run at multiple tracks, and annihilates her competition.
why either horse has anyone knocking them i can't and i don't understand. i think this thread has gotten well beyond ridiculous.

as for 30k claimers, they don't just appear in cali and win-no doubt that has happened at some point at any racing venue.
