My father being a horse trainer, I grew up on the weekends and every summer on the racetrack, cleaning out horse stalls. As he'd work the horses, I'd go out to the infield and lie down with my ear on the ground next to the rail. I'd hear those horses coming around the clubhouse turn and then down the backstretch.
