Able One floors bigger names at Sha Tin

Sha Tin: The Chairman's Trophy (HK Group 2) 1m, turf, 3yo+
ABLE ONE (John Moore/Darren Beadman) regained the sort of form that once crowned him a Group 1 winner in the past by snaring a very competitive renewal of the Chairman's Trophy at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Since running out a surprise victor of the Champions Mile almost exactly three years ago, Able One had won just once in the interim, with three different stress fractures to his off-fore and hind legs blighting any hopes of progress.
Yet on this occasion, he was clearly quietly fancied by connections, with stable jockey Darren Beadman opting to ride him over higher-rated stablemates Collection and Viva Pataca, both better suited over longer distances and preparing for the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup at the end of the month.
Five of the 11 starters had been successful at the highest level with three of last month's Mercedes-Benz HK Derby protagonists - Beauty Flash, Brave Kid and Fair Trade - best supported in the betting.
Beadman slipped Able One into a handy position in third and took over from pacesetter Beauty Flash at the top of the straight and hung on from the typically determined late rally from Mr Medici by a neck. Viva Pataca ran his best race for some time to finish third.
"Able One has had so many problems but he has always retained his class and has been sounder this season than for a long time," said Moore.
"I'm delighted he was able to pick up another Group race today. If there any flaws among the opposition in the Champions Mile in a few weeks he will be the horse to expose them.
"Collection was finishing off well before being checked late on," added Moore.
"He just finds this trip too short, but it was a good prep for the QEII Cup. The same goes for Viva Pataca who will also target the Champions & Chater Cup at the end of May and go for his fourth win in that race."
