Well, on that topic, most racing authorities do not actually allow events named for living persons. NYRA went against tradition when they wanted to add Joe Hirsch's name to the Turf Classic while he was still alive and could appreciate it.
The travesty in this MJC fiasco is that if they had suggested to Chick Lang renaming the Hirsch Jacobs in his honor, he'd have told them
absolutely not to under any condition. Lang would be mortified to know they did this.
