That's because most animals don't have insurance companies dictating what I can charge, what diagnostic tests I can run for what conditions, what treatments I can offer, what I get reimbursed, and what veterinarians you can use.

Horse health care (where insurance is greatly involved) is still (relatively) expensive, however. All animals are at the complete mercy of their owners whether they get any health care at all, or not.
