Yeah, interesting. I always enjoy reading Brent Staples and happen to find him one of the more intelligent gentleman in his industry. Do I always agree with everything he says? Obviously not. No doubt the NYT is a liberal and left leaning news source, but I love reading it. I'm never above reading a different point of view from mine. But IMO, he is spot on when he says this:
Mr. Obama seems to understand that he is always an utterance away from a statement — or a phrase — that could transform him in a campaign ad from the affable, rational and racially ambiguous candidate into the archetypical angry black man who scares off the white vote
He makes no mention of this, but I truly feel the opposite is in effect for McCain/Palin. I think the two of them must tread lightly in regards to the things they may say about Obama. Don't think for a second that the left wouldn't take anything either of them may say regarding race and run with it, Given the chance to paint either of them as racists, the media would light into them.
The sad thing is we are having this conversation in 2008.
