I would have preferred (as I've stated many times) Condi Rice if he selected a woman...seems like a better pick on the surface. She is anti-abortion (like that as long as she's not a fanatic who wants to overturn Roe), she's NRA (can live with that) but against gay rights it appears (that's a big problem)....anyway, I'll wait to listen to her and hopefully learn a lot more about her. All in all, very interesting move!
Ideally Condi would have been the pick. But he couldn't have taken the risk by taking anyone from the Bush regime. Too much negativity would have come from it.
Personally, I have not seen enough of Palin to make a decision. It does seem like they took some air out of the Obama sails with the pick. But after learning a little about Palin, my first reacation was wow, she certainly covers many segments of the voting population. Woman, Mother of a soldier and child with a disability. This comes into play. I have 2 healthy kids (thank God) and it is stressful enough worrying and taking care of them on a regular day. And I am not running for VP. Will it affect her? The children will be thrusted into the spotlight now too. I am also guessing that there will be alot of time away from the children/baby. I know how my wife was with our children, she didn't even want to leave them to go out to dinner. Esentially she is choosing a big career move here over her children and might even take some heat publically for that. It's something she might regret later on. Then there is the whole NRA, Hunting deal. She did seem to be very well spoken, also she seemed to be very genuine (maybe Hilliary should be taking notes).
Experience or lack there of, is a big issue for me personally. If for some reason she ended up in the oval office, How would she react if the $hit hit the fan? I feel the same way about Obama in this sense. That is the reason I thought Condi was a great fit. I would also feel a little better, if she came from a state with many issues (NY, CAL, TEX etc.) I am not sure what goes on in Alaska, but I can't believe that it could be that much.
I look foward to see her debate with Biden. Definatley a risky pick, because I thought he could beat Obama without any "trick plays". So if she craps the bed, this could end up cost him an election that he might have been able to win with a safe pick for VP.
