If he got cut it's because he wouldn't relax early. This is very hard to pull off, and the other horses who have failed were looking nice going in, too. You can make fun (all you want) of those who think track surface is important, but I still think it's a major factor. That surface is deeper than GP,Churchill, or Pimlico., and it does factor somewhat in this. I mean Sarava, Bird whatever, and Tara did something on this surface that they simply weren't able to do on other surfaces. Tara couldn't win an ungraded stakes anywhere else, but takes this grade one. People should respect the power of this surface, because it matters to horses a lot.
