It isn't like I am going to see a tornado, run straight at it and maybe want to play catch with someone right in front of it, just would like to experience the raw power/sounds that it provides, without endangering myself.

I understand the fascination.
Its the awesome nature thing.
I think lightning is absolutely awesome.
Have seen lightning strike a tree and
my wife's car just in front of me at a traffic light.
My daughter learned expletives from my
wife. I got to see the air around their
car glow purple. They were crying too
much for more thorough questioning concerning
the event. I was not hearing well anyway.
Its clear they did not find it fascinating.
The people in the neighborhood next to
us that got ripped by a small tornado were
not curious either.
I understand. Its interesting.
