It looks like it is going to be a very decent Florida Derby.

Awesome Maria worth trying to beat? She feels like 1-9. Maybe a few bucks in multis. Wolfsons horse might be tough to pass.

When was the last time Pletcher didn't have a serious contender in the
3-year old filly division down at Gulfstream? I don't think he had an entry in the Davona Dale either.

Is it my imagination or Javy race rode Frenchy in to a bad spot for what looked like the entire race?

Not your imagination..I thought maybe Julien thought this was a turf race myself..

pba1817 03-31-2012 05:13 PM

Castellano rode the race like it was a match race between he and Leparoux...

Mike 03-31-2012 05:54 PM

Say what you want about the ride, Union Rags (and El Padrino) were less than awe inspiring today. I thought Take Charge Indy was holding well.

Mike 03-31-2012 06:18 PM

May not be much solace to those who keyed Union Rags today, but this Florida Derby result was just a positive for horse race players. The top two horses on most lists lost today(El Padrino and Union Rags), which merely opens everything up, raising the odds of those two horses on Derby day, as well as opening up the possibilities of many other runners come that day. The Derby, folks, will be wide open!

I never understood the love for El Pyrodino. Today did nothing to diminish him.

hockey2315 03-31-2012 07:21 PM

Union Rags might be even more overbet off that "trip" today than he would've been with a win. . . Can't wait to play against him. 95 Beyer for the winner, by the way.

I agree with you on this, I think he will be an underlay and is overhyped. I'm not sure he wants the classic distances either which makes me even more against him.

NTamm1215 03-31-2012 08:07 PM

If the Derby winner ran today at GP, then I can plan on cashing no tickets right now.

Zo Impressive will be very tough in the Acorn. Like her sister, I get the feeling she's going to be best at 7-8fs.

pointman 03-31-2012 08:16 PM

I don't want anyone out the Florida Derby either at this point. I don't see how Take Charge Indy could win the Derby with that style unless they restrict the Derby to the Aqueduct winter jockey colony.

I agree with you.

And a lot of people are also trying to reach and say that the track was speed biased.

Union Rags got a lot of hype for a win over the turtle like News Pending and Discreet Dancer -- who had missed a workout before that race and was subsquently removed from the TC Trail. That was the lone two-turn dirt route on the card -- so no figure could be trusted -- and a lot of figure makers I thought gave UR the benefit of the doubt.

Not that Union Rags couldn't turn the tables on the top two from the FLA Derby -- but he keeps getting the benefit of the doubt from all angles with every race.

I might throw a couple tickets and key Hansen/Take Charge Indy in 3rd/4th spots as I sense they hook up and fade in the stretch.

Aqsaam got a brutal ride by Ragiv Maragh in the Orchid. I dont know why he decided to open up by 8 lengths going that fast early. A good horse nonetheless and should be a factor in bigger better races to come.

Really nothing more to be said, this guy is the king of bad rides.
