Lagoon of Diamonds race to lose.

tjfla 04-06-2011 02:38 PM

$300,000 claimer race?:D

Seriously tho-why wouldn't a Arkansas horse(Nehro,Elite Alex,Sway Away) try this race? It is $180,000 and no The Factor,Archarcharch or anything

Should be a nice betting race tho with the favorite being Watch Me Go

slotdirt 04-06-2011 02:47 PM

Because 180k decidedly might not get a horse in the Derby this year?

Mike 04-06-2011 06:52 PM

Southern Sculptor looks like my choice to upset the weak favorite

Why? Because 3 of the last 4 Ill Derby winners have gone wire-to-wire?

Ah, I see. I wasn't sure if maybe you liked the 4.5-9f stretchout? ;)

Based on how shitty this field is, the $6k the owner supplemented him for the TC races doesn't quite seem like the worst $6k ever spent now, does it?

Yes it does... that 6k has nothing to do with entry for the Illinois Derby. He could have been entered in this race regardless if he was nominated to the triple crown or not.

I believe the entry fee for the Ky Derby is also 25K and the starting fee is 25K - on top of the 6K late nomination fee - so thats $56,000 spent just to run a horse in the KY Derby.

pba1817 04-06-2011 09:22 PM

I am pretty sure there has been worse money spent in horse racing. Simply put, based on the field he is facing in the Illinois Derby, that $6k still doesn't look as bad as it did earlier in the week.

Charles Fipke spending that $6,000 is like any of us spending $6.

FTFY

(Put it in Dougie terms)

The sort of attitude in the two posts above has a lot to do with why owners get ripped off in this sport ..... and why pathetically clueless con artists get rich in this industry working as bloodstock agents and "stable managers" for owners.

Dougie, I was just playin'.

Does someone need a hug?

Indian Charlie 04-07-2011 07:43 PM

I think fellow grumpsters Dougie and Stevie (Scuds) need to get together for a hug.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-07-2011 08:31 PM

Moi? Grumpy?

He is certainly a contender but, I will take my chances with El Grayling.
I just can't get past his company lines compared to this field.
I just hope he can work out a trip from the 10 hole.
