He's a monster!

Will they ever fill a race he can get into?

Nice work though! Should be some bottom in him at this point.

Was just looking at the condition book thru January 31st and don't see any non-NYB MCL 6f races for 3 year olds, other than "substitute" races. Am I reading that correctly?

Yes you are reading that correctly.

So realistically, what are the chances of finding a race soon?

miraja2 01-14-2010 08:40 PM

The only one that went faster was Wall Street Wonder, who (as I'm sure a lot of you know) is a pretty decent, stakes-caliber horse.
Congrats on another nice work by your boy.

There is absolutely no telling Wally.

To give you a recent example, Chuck was entering Richwood Silver for almost 20 days, we got into a race, and then we got SNOWED OUT by the biggest snowstorm in the history of Philadelphia, and then we continued to enter in multiple races per day, only to have to go into a sprint race. It is quite maddening.

I could go into some recent Tampa stories, such as them not using a race with over 20 entrants, but that might just send ole Chuck into the deep end.

Moral of the story, you are at the mercy of the condition book

Saint Daimon?!? Had no idea he was still racing.

Before getting involved with DT, I never even worried about the condition book! Just assumed there were plentiful races, and trainer/owners picked their spots. So when you get a horse ready and there are no available races, you have to just keep working them to stay fit, waiting for your spot, right?

Essentially, yes. It's a delicate balance because as soon as you decide to get a work in, like yesterday, a race that has been listed as an extra on the overnight for ages may get used. But as with yesterday's work, since AQU's next draw is for Wednesday, Gary is sure that if a race does go, he has given the colt 6 days between the drill and the race.

It's one of the challenging and interesting aspects of the game behind the scenes. And obviously there is plenty of pressure on the racing office from the trainers to get races used for their horses that are sitting on starts..

Thanks. This new education is all part of the enjoyment of being a DT'er. Becoming aware of new and different aspects is enlightening.

Nice Avatar!

D.C.: Why don't you just call her again?
Lloyd Dobler: I draw the line at 7 unreturned phone calls.

I have to totally agree. This is my first foray in a partnership and the education has been a great deal of fun. Just looking forward to seeing Lloyd run and hopefully being there to see it in person.
