Did anyone think he would not go?

IrishofNDMan 05-04-2009 11:05 AM

Well, Wooley did say he didn't feel obligated to run in the preakness and that he would have no problem waiting for the Belmont and the extra distance.

I did. I'm sorry to hear they've been caught up in the pressure.

I honestly wasn't sure, as he's a gelding and will probably be up against it for a variety of reasons.
But for pure ego reasons, I figured they would eventually deicide they had to go. Can't wait to see how the rest of the field shapes up.

I'd take the money, thank God, and keep my aim where it was to start. Eight phone calls on Sunday filled with promises and freebee's can change one's mind.

they had no aim after the derby. they didn't expect to win, so i'm not surprised there was no plan in place to go to md. then they won. they're as shocked as everyone i'd imagine.

What I heard is that they were hoping (at best) for a 6-5-4 showing in the Derby, then on to the Belmont if the horse was sound.

Edit: as an aside, interesting discussion now on the Thorograph site, about this horses Derby number (not unrealistic), and the pattern needed to win a TC.

Ego? Mine That bird chewed the Derby field up and spit them out on Saturday. He won fair and square, and actually ran to do it. He wasn't a suck-up winner in a blanket finish. Going to the Preakness is the next step if the horse is healthy.

yeah, they think he'll like the 1 1/2. but there's no way, after winning, they could conceivably skip for no reason other than 'we weren't planning to go'. plans change.

Are they driving the Van back to NM first and then making a 30 hour tripWonder if they have ever seen traffic like 495 around DC? May get lost. They'll have a tougher trip than MTB for sure.

sumitas 05-04-2009 01:28 PM

MTB's mating is an A++ . Broodmare sire is Smart Strike . Didn't he have a good couple of years recently ? Hmmm. And MTB was Canadian Juvi Champ as well as being fingered as a horse likely to run a top by tgraph and then dismissed . He was a hard one to pick but he had some credentials that were overlooked by the handicappers imo .

great news, I predict an off-the-board finish.
