Claimer in the Derby?

General Quarters was claimed in his first race for 20k and looks like a possible derby entry. Has there ever been a claimed horse that ran in the KD?

charismatic ran in a higher priced claimer, 75-85k..and of course he won the derby. there may be others, but he's the only one who immediately leaps to my mind.

He wasn't claimed and Lukas and the Lewises sweated that one out.

In 2006 there was more than one. Lawyer Ron, Sweetnorthersaint, and others I think.

Actually, I'm not sure if either of them was actually claimed. But they both ran in claiming races. Sorry. Read your question too fast.

If Loch Dubh does well today at Oaklawn, I'm sure he'll be Derby bound as well.

I thought of these as well, but I don't think either was claimed. I seem to remember SweetNS being DQ'd in his claiming race after winning by 15.

Obviously a very nice claim for Talley and the horse performed very well on the synthethic the next two races however its hard to see the horse getting it done in the SW.

A good trivia question for Jon White.

Cool thing about this horse, is that the owner is also the groom!
