For medication, claiming violations, misidentifying horses or all of the above?

don't forget the suspensions for not following terms of suspensions.

I'd say the over/under is 112. A few for bad checks in MD, maybe a couple for exceedingthe speed limit at Laurel with that Firebird he had back in 1976, and then others. Then throw in the one he got for being associated with a funky claim last year - wow that was a big one that guys at Delpark do all the time....

Danzig 05-16-2008 10:01 PM

gotta be more than that, since he's been in trouble in six states, as well as canada.

Dutrow has been fined or suspended each of the past eight years for doping-related offenses, most recently a pair of $500 fines in January for illegal amounts of Phenylbutazone, an anti-inflammatory drug, at Gulfstream Park in Florida. According to the report, his horses have also tested positive for illegal amounts of Clenbuterol, a respiratory drug, and Lasix, an anti-bleeding medication. Told there are others, he only acknowledges the 2005 charge, which he maintains was bogus.

The ARCI report actually contains 72 total entries. Thirteen are for drug-related offenses. Many of the entries are for minor violations - not having the proper paperwork or a late scratch here and there. And many others center on Dutrow, not his horses. Several marijuana offenses. A suspension in Maryland 28 years ago for "allegedly participating in a scheme involving stolen checks, forgeries ... and cashing checks under false pretenses." A 1991 suspension in New York for attempting "to provide a false urine sample by means of an apparatus concealed upon his person." Fined in 2003 for "being the aggressor in an altercation."

Here's a list of infractions, not all lead to suspension. Among them are such gems attempting to provide a false urine sample using a device hidden on his body ( ) and many comments about "failure to do business properly" which usually are paperwork issues.

Better question...Have you had a drug test lately?

The Bid 05-16-2008 11:27 PM

That list is pathetic. Although I think you can forgive the stuff he did when he was a young man, hes continually shown a blatant disregard for all racing authority. These are the kinds of guy who are successful in racing. Sad that this great game is littered with guys who couldnt get a job at Wendys

The list in the baltimore sun is ridiculous. Has anyone ever said to this guy the next strike and you get a lifetime ban.

This is a very dirty sport. How it got this bad is beyond me. This guy shouldn't be even allowed near racetracks.

You want to know why the sport is dying. Who would bet serious money on horses when this crap is going on? You might as well stick to poker, vegas, or sports. At least you know they aren't ripping you off, just stacking the deck against you.

I love this exchange when he talks about his monthly use of winstrol

"You'd have to ask the vet what the purpose of that is," he said. "I don't know what it does. I just like using it."

You like using it, but you don't know what it does? Why would you like using it if you don't know what it does? You must see something?

"No," he said. "I don't."

Do you see something from not using it?

"No," he said.

I'm not Dutrow's biggest fan, and certainly he doesn't need anyone defending him. I just have to ask for the sake of asking surely he is not the only one in the game that disregards the rules of racing is he? I like to compare it to the 100 yd dash in the Olympics, the guys in the final are probably doing it and the guys that got eliminated are probably a little too honest.

ArlJim78 05-17-2008 10:15 AM

who among us hasn't tried the old hidden urine device trick. classic.

what do you say when you're caught? "what? what? thats not mine"

no one asks the guy who finishes last, Dutrow is getting his 15 minutes, it would be no different if Jeff Mullins had this horse.

to be fair to Dutrow, and Pat V as well, they did not have the "Wizzenater" back then.
